The basics, 24 October christened, cottager Jens Peersen in Fensmark, son Hans Christian born 6 September and was home christened. The christening was confirmed in Fensmark church.

1845 POSSIBLE census for Hans Christian Jensen born in Fensmark. His wife Caroline was previously married. If there are no other men by this same name in Fensmark that year or close, this is likely the same individual. More study need to prove. This same family seen in the 1850, 1860 census, same location.

The Hans discussed above is in the FS tree L44H-TTD but incorrectly listed as being born in København. Are you a descendant of this man?

When Hans C. Jensen is born he goes on the military levying roll as seen here. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16481031#17346,756203 His father is named as Jens Pedersen. Note the birth date of 6 September in the column on the right. This is the beginning of records for Hans in the levying roll. I'll continue this study and share more.

It took a bit o luck and persistence to find his 1828 confirmation, I just felt sure it would name his mother and it does... YES! He was confirmed in the parish next to Fensmark. (It always pays to have a map handy to see the nearby parishes). It is called Rislev parish. The confirmation notes Hans is from Fensmark so it is a solid source. His mother is Sophie Pedersdatter. He was vaccinated 10 October 1814. With this information you can search more accurately now for his parents and previous generations. Oh wow, my great great aunt was married to a Hans Christian Jensen born on the same day in Fensmark. I was assuming this was him. But now I'm confused. Look at these records and sources and tell me if we are way off base here
KZ64-Z4L Hans Christian Jensen, my Aunt M39N-NQ6 Karen Marie Simonson Jensen. I have the Copenhagen emigration record which shows her leaving at age 25 with her brothers and her father. At Ellis Island the rolls show she is married to Hans, they are still listed with Ole Simonson, but her name changed and now it says wife. She says she was married on board the ship in her obituary. It sailed in 1865. Unless he married two Carolines, I'm really confused. They had only 3 children here. She went by Caroline, Karen, lots of names throughout her life as indicated in the sources. Read her obit. Thanks for your help, I've been researching this line for years, and you accomplished more in one day than I've managed in forever. Lori

There are at least two Hans Christian Jensen in FamilySearch. Here is an image with them side by side. They could be the same individual. Hans' wife dies in 1873 in Denmark, he could remarry Karen and come to America. More study is needed. If they are the same man, there is an error in the burial location (one is in America Fork, which I believe is the error because there is a headstone in Brigham City with the accurate birth date of 6 Sept.

The sources for Karen Marie, their aren't many for Hans, but his grave is there.

Yes, I don't think they are the same person, but the same name, place and birthdate is odd. Especially since it is the only one I could find for that date in Fensmark. His parents have the same name also, that is really odd.

But Karen Marie wasn't his first wife and they have two children with the same names which often happened in Denmark

So that is definitely not the right Hans Christian Jensen, he is buried somewhere else. I guess my question is are you sure the birth record doesn't belong to mine.

Lori, I'm reviewing all of the sources of this man and his family. There is a headstone in Brigham (my home!!) that matches one of the men. One key piece I am lacking is an immigration record that shows this man coming to America.

Hans L44H-TTD has a son Christian with Caroline. Christian's immigration year according to the 1910 census is 1866, this fits well with Hans could have left without children because they were older or deceased. Christian would be been about 27 years old, he could have traveled alone joining the family in Utah. Carl LY3H-7ZG and Andreas LY3H- Q5J are not yet proven.

I sourced the immigration record on either Karen Marie or Hans. I'll go back and look, it is in my source book. I have a paper copy of the emigration record also, but I don't know how to find it online. It is in the copenhagen conference.

I'll add the immigration record to Hans. So can you add all the other sources to the record or tell me how to do it. I am in way over my head here. I'm suppose to a family history consultant but I'm really new at this. Especially researching in Denmark. Can you help with some of the other problems I've been having?

I'm happy to help with whatever you need. You are doing great. Don't worry about being a consultant, there are many ways to help others through your enthusiasm and caring attitude. It's a work of the heart and the skills can be developed a long the way. I'm almost convinced the two men ARE THE SAME PERSON, but evidence must be presented. It is an interesting story. I'll go to our cemetery tomorrow and have a little chat with Hans. :-) I've walked there a lot so I've probably passed by his grave. The clue that bridges the two men together is immigration.

He actually came twice. First to set up his household and then he went back and came back with her and her family. I don't have the first crossing.

Why would he leave his first wife in Denmark. If he came for the second time in 1866 he would be leaving her there?

The first wife of Hans is Caroline Henriette. She dies in 1873 as a 69 year old. That date presents a problem if Hans is supposed to leave in 1866, but it is possible they divorced? I did find a Hans Jensen in the Copenhagen Conference who is with a Karen M. He is a 51 year old Smith (Blacksmith)which fits really well with census occupations for him.
