New member introduction
Is this the place for me to introduce myself? I consider myself Welsh (born and bred), though my British ancestry is the usual mix of Welsh, English, with some Irish and a German via Australia and New Zealand.
I've lived in Wales, England, Sweden and the US. Currently back in north Wales and no plans to move on. I relish helping others with their discoveries; seeing the joy when telling someone where their unknown grandfather is buried and why they share his name, or assisting the youth get to grips with Indexing and finding.
My UK ancestors come from Carmarthenshire and Glamorgan; my English are from Devon, Somerset and Avon, all coming to Cardiff when coal was king, Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and Humberside (watermen). My Irish ancestors left for Victoria when everyone was leaving Ireland due to starvation. One of my hero ancestors in my German great-great-grandfather who survived the tragedy of the sinking of the RMS Tayleur in 1854.
I have research expertise in Welsh, English, Scottish, Swedish and American ancestry, with a smidgeon of German and Polish. I'm looking forward to connecting with the group in our mutual searches. I currently live in north Wales. I'm not a fluent Welsh speaker though my children are.

@Tootiki ,
We are so happy to have you as a member of our group and thank you for introducing yourself.
You have a wonderful heritage!
With your research expertise in those areas, I look forward to the questions you will ask and the help you can give to other group members as we all work together on our family history!

Hi Tootiki,
Lovely to hear from you. You family and heritage sounds as mixed up as mine. No Polish although there might be some Ukrainian. Like you I have moved around a fair bit and have lived in a few different places and countries and loved it as well.
I used to live in Wrexham many moons ago, which is where my son was born. Now I'm living in lovely Mid-Wales, where the hills are beautifully green, with grazing sheep and daft pheasants who seem to have a death wish. Why on earth do those birds like walking on the roads when flying is far safer?
I must admit I do wish I could speak Welsh it would help, my lovely English daughter-in-law does, my Welsh son does not! They live in the south of England.
My knowledge of Welsh family history is nearly non-existent but I'm hoping it will grow as the Welsh side of my daughter-in-laws family needs a lot of attention.
The video which KevinRobinson posted on the thread Welsh for Family History is very helpful, for me at least.
Best regards
Cedar
