I am still trying to figure out the "Why" on this redesign
Having worked as a consultant, and in a data processing department, whenever this type of redesign comes about, I would like to know WHY its come about.
Many, many people in general resist changes to redesigns because the service provider usually works with focus groups, develop their game plans and then plop the new, better design down, but they explain the "why"?
To me, and without knowing the "why" this is being done, this new page is too stripped down, especially on a desktop display. I am looking at my desktop screen, and there is a lot of white space on a 27" screen. I feel as if I am the only person in a very empty space, which makes it a bit unsettling. Its so clean, it seems to have lost its purpose of drawing people into the site.
I also feel that the tree is being advanced over the databases.
So my overall feeling is I still don't see what the advantage to this redesign is, it's not been fully explained, so it just becomes "change for the sake of change" instead of change for the sake of improvement.

I also feel that it is lacking something. Feels very empty. Everything functions well, and is easy to find. It just seems cold and uninviting. I use a 15" laptop.

I second your thoughts. The new homepage feels empty, without soul. I miss seeing the recently posted memories. I liked having a banner with links to new opportunities.
I'm guessing they were going for a minimalist view with fewer distractions. It is definitely minimalist. It is NOT engaging or inviting.
I use a Mac 15" laptop.

I think the new home page looks lost on my desktop computer. There are large columns of white space on both sides of the home page. Is there a way to make it fill my screen?

@Michele Belville Bailey - thanks for the question. There is currently not a plan to make this happen! Stay tuned though for future updates.
