Scanned Memories using Lexmark 611 not showing up in Memories gallery
@Jaelene Starr has posted:
We have a patron who has scanned both photos and documents today using Lexmark 611 to her FS account. She did everything correctly. Lexmark said that the upload was complete.
Yet, going into her gallery nothing is there as a new memory. In fact, no photos or documents are showing up in gallery, even though she has thousands. Where have her previous documents and photos gone, and why as the newly scanned items not shown up in her account?
Is there a known issue with Memories loosing photos?

I’ve talked with my team, and we think one of two issues might be the problem here.
First and easiest, please make sure your user logged in correctly (just worried about her logging in differently while working with a helper).
Second--and this is more likely as well as more challenging--the user downloaded too many files, files which probably had very large file sizes. And she already had thousands in the Gallery to begin with.
A known issue with the Gallery is that too many files (like around 5,000 or more) result in the Gallery being unable to load all the files within a given time. Before the Gallery can load them all, the system times-out (at 5 minutes). For example, if you have 6,000 files in your Gallery, the Gallery will try to load them all, but it can’t load them all in 5 minutes, so sometimes nothing will show in your Gallery.
We know this is frustrating. Engineers known it is a problem.
The images are not gone. But it will be challenging for your Gallery to load them.
Solutions:
-You need to try and move some files into the Archive. Again, this will be tricky since you can’t see all the files in your Gallery.
-One solution is to empty album files into the Archive. This will free up some space in the Gallery.
-Another solution is to filter the Gallery to show only Documents. Then move those to the Archive. Same with Stories. And Audio.
Best Practices:
-If you plan to upload lots of files into your Gallery, consider moving files already in your Gallery to the Archive first.
-When uploading files into your Gallery, don’t try to upload a thousand at a time. Upload them in smaller groups.
If you user is still having a problem, please let us know and we can reach-out and help them individually.
Thanks for the feedback. And for your work helping others!

As a side note, when our Center received a new printer earlier this year and I learned that we did not have to return the older 611 model, we chose to keep the older printer and advertise it specifically for scanning of photos and documents. That freed up the new printer for users of the six computers in our Center, so a person coming in to use the older printer/scanner for preservation of memories could scan to their heart's content without disrupting any printing being requested by other patrons in the Center as they worked on the computers.
Many people don't know that the scanner is an excellent resolution color scanner, despite the fact that the printer is only black and white.
Also, we connected a surplus keyboard to the printer/scanner to avoid the problematic printer touch pad issues when people try to upload items to their FamilySearch account. Be sure to plug the keyboard into the REAR USB port.
And be aware that the newer v3.0 USB thumb drives (with a blue insert in the end of the USB drive - see photo below) will NOT work in the 611. That printer is not compatible with anything beyond USB 2.0 (look for either black or white inserts in the end of a USB thumb drive to be certain it will allow saving of images to the thumb drive for preservation. USB v2 thumb drives are still easily available in various stores and on Amazon.

Amber, thank you so much for the feedback. At the time she only tried scanning one document on the Lexmark and it did not show in gallery, or anywhere. (she tried as both a document and as a photo)
Question: What is the result of files being sent to archive? She has a lot of albums. Once in archive, will she be able to access them as an album? Will archived images still be viewable on individual person pages?
It is reassuring that the images are not lost. She estimates that she has about 3,000.
Do you think that this problem will be fixed soon? I tell everyone that Family search is the best and safest place to store their images. Now I may be hesitant to say that. The program is absolutely wonderful!! the engineers have been doing a great job, but I hope that they will be able to overcome this problem soon.
We will try having her scan to a flash drive, then upload into a specific person page's memory to see if that will work.

Hurrah! I had her open up Gallery and then wait for 10-15 minutes while she worked on other things.
The gallery did show all her pictures after about 10 minutes. So that is good to know to just keep gallery open and wait. Note that she is on a Windows 11 computer, with fiber optic fast internet.
Come to find out, she has over 16,000 images in her gallery!!😀
