Difficulty Tagging People in Pictures
When clicking to tag a person in a photo, it seems to be a toss up whether their name will come up on the list that appears below the field while tagging. Sometimes, I'll start typing a name and their record will pop up, making tagging easy. This is to be expected. Other times, I'll start typing the name and it pulls up nothing. I can type the exact match of the person's full name on FamilySearch and they won't appear.
I've copy-pasted PIDs and not had the person come up in the list, so I don't know what this thing's design is actually doing.
In either scenario, I found that I can still create the tag, and then I can attach it to someone on Family Tree using the sidebar on the right and clicking "Attach to Tree," but this is unintuitive, especially given how hit-or-miss the rest of the system is. Not sure if this is intended functionality, a bug, or a fundamental flaw in this feature's core design, but I can imagine the headaches it would cause most users.

Thanks for sharing your feedback! I've spent some time trying this out. . . You are right, sometimes the pop-up box for Tagging people will include people in the FamilySearch tree. Sometimes it won't.
I've discovered that it WILL generate names, but it only seems to pull from those individuals whom I have worked on recently. For instance, when I go to my Recents page (from the top header, click Family Tree, then select Recents option), these are the people who will pop-up in the Tag People box. If they aren't on my Recents list, they don't seem to be included in my "Tag Person" search.
Can you please check to see if that is the same experience for you?
I will add this to our Known Issues page, and I'll see if I can get some more information about why this might be happening.
Thanks again!

Hi again, @Andrew J Tryon
I have some additional information on why the “Tag People” pop-up box sometimes generates the person you want and sometimes does not. . .
I’ve talked with the Engineers and, for now, the “Tag People” function is working as designed.
Though it might not seem ideal, the first thing to remember is that the FamilySearch tree has SOOOOO many individual PIDs. When the Engineers first designed the “Tag People,” all those PIDs were taking too long to load, so they re-designed the “Tag Person” to offer fewer returns. Now, when you begin to type in the “Tag People” field, only 100 of your closest relatives/those you’ve recently worked on will display.
If you are tagging someone you’ve recently worked on/close relative, the “Tag People” function will do a good job of finding them; many improvements have been made to help you filter through this smaller group. However, as you have noted, it won’t search every PID in the FamilySearch tree.
I can assure you, though, more improvements will come to the “Tag Person” feature in the future.
For now. . . If anyone still has difficulty understanding how to use the “Add New” or “Attach to Tree” options to tag the person they want, here are the steps:
- Click the “Tag People” button located on the top of your Memory or near the top of the Information side-bar.
- In the “Tag People” pop-up box, begin typing either a name or an ID in the filter box.
- If your desired name/ID generates, select it (including as many versions of that persons from your Family Group Trees as you want). Click “Tag Selected” at the bottom.
- If your desired name/ID does not generate, select the “Add New” option. Click “Tag Selected” at the bottom.
- In the Information side-bar, you will see your newly-added name/ID. Underneath it, click “Attach to Tree.”
- “Attach to Family Tree” pop-up box will open. If you know the ID, enter it into the bottom field. In the next pop-up box, the system will generate that ID for you to attach. You will then see that person at the top of your “Tagged People” list in the Information side-bar.
- If you click “Search Family Tree” in the “Attach to Family Tree” pop-up box, it will jump you to the FamilySearch “Find” page. There you can search for your person; once found, select them. The system will jump you back to your original Memory. You will now see that person at the top of your “Tagged People” list in the Information side-bar.
(PLEASE NOTE: this search is a completely different function than the “Tag People” function mentioned above, so they work differently. Yes, it would be wonderful if they worked the same, but they are two separate functions.)
