Swiss birth certificate translation.
Hi, can anybody help with this birth certificate for my grandmother, born in erstfeld in 1883?
having much trouble making out the mother's name.
also attaching the document so it can be read more easily.

Let me start with a general comment. I had proposed a structure for discussion titles on https://community.familysearch.org/de/discussion/129680/what-title-would-be-best-for-postings and hope for many opinions: what do you think about this? Alternatively you could just adopt this format in your future postings 😉. To use your posting as example, a good title would be Erstfeld - birth - 1893 - Steiger - mother's name.
But to answer your question - the mother was Josefine Buholzer of Kriens, canton Luzern, where Buholzer have been citizens since before 1800.
Just a correction: the birth took place in 1893 (not 1883).

"Josephine buholzer von Kriens" is what is listed on my grandmother's death certificate, so thank you for confirming that name! i was just really unsure if the "von Kriens" part was actually in her name or not. also knowing the real spelling of "Josefine" is valuable. thanks for that. yes, the 1883 is a typo.
is there any other info off that doc i can use to update my info for carl or josefine's profiles? age at louise's birth of her parents, or something like that? i have next to nothing for info about carl (and even less for josefine) besides this doc and one or two other very brief clues on other docs i've found. i have an about date for carl's birth of 1848 or '49, that's it. i queried canton uri's records department to get the document that is attached to the header of this thread, btw.
my father gave me a good dose of swiss/german blood (my mom had some german blood as well, most of that i can account for), but my dad also had 1/3rd mix of english, welsch, and french blood (reported by ancestry.com), which i am super-interested to find out where that came from!
i am also searching for ANY info at all about my grandfather's family on my dad's side. his name was othmar annaheim, born (15 Dec 1892) and grew up in lostorf. he left a divorced former wife and two girls in switzerland when he moved to the states with my grandmother in 1922. one was named martha (1916) and the other margerite (1918). this is all i know of his history before he hit the states.

These are quite a few (implicit) questions 😉 … let's go through them.
"von XXXX" (with XXXX being a city) is not part of the name nor any indication of nobility - just indicates the place of citizenship - e.g. "Buholzer von Kriens" or "Steiger von Uetikon". The family lived in Erstfeld - would be indicated as "in Erstfeld".
Don't place to much importance on the difference Josefine / Josephine … f and ph are often interchangeable without significance.
There is no additional info on the parents' vital data. Just some info like "geboren zu Erstfeld beim Bahnhof" (born in Erstfeld near the rail station) implies that the family lived near the rail station - not surprising as the father was Lokomotivführer (locomotive driver).

You could certainly ask about the grandparents here. As the "community" is more a "translation help desk" than a discussion forum, it may be a good idea to start a new topic. I would recommend to ask additionally in a "real discussion forum", however, like https://www.geneal-forum.com/ … where we already have a discussion on Steiger von Uetikon (https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=23551) - just post an "answer" there, even if at the moment we don't see a direct connection. We know that this Steiger line were citizens of Uetikon (canton Zürich) … so the Civil Registration Office for Uetikon (https://www.uetikonamsee.ch/fachbereiche/12227) and the Zürich State Archive (https://www.zh.ch/de/familie/familienforschung.html) will have information about your family. Lets assume Karl and Josefine got married 1876 or later - then Staatsarchiv should find the marriage entry in the marriage register duplicates (as we don't know the year this would require some research; don’t know if they are willing to do this or charge for it … just ask). They also hold a "Familienregister" (https://suche.staatsarchiv.djiktzh.ch/detail.aspx?id=315813) which should include summaries of entire families, likely covering one or two earlier generations: ask whether they can (are willing to) supply further information on your ancestors from this source. Try Staatsarchiv first - usually more "customer friendly" as compared to Civil Registration Offices with their (fairly high) fixed fees for official documents.

ah, so she was likely married to carl then.
is buholzer spelled here with a "ü"? is that something i can use in my searches? differences between "buholzer" and "büholzer"?
i guess my next search is to find out where they got married to see if i can find a marriage certificate. i assume it would either be in uetikon (it's inferred that carl is from uetikon, correct? does "von" describe that he was born there or just resided there more recently?) or kriens, but really have no idea when. i don't even know either's birth date. they could have been married in zurich, or anywhere else really.

Yes: Josefine Buholzer (Buholzer - not Büholzer, which is not a Swiss name) was Karl Steiger's wife.
