Adding assistant
Hi all out there!
I have a problem trying to give access a nephew to my tree. My code in the tree as root is xxx, and as part of the tree is my nephew (xxx).
He recently created his own FS profile having been assigned the code xxx.
Now I want two things: 1, is to give him irrestricted access to all my family tree and 2. to merge/substitute his new code (xxx) with the old one (xxx)
How can it be done?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the question. Since you are living, he will need to create his own version of you, so he will have a different ID number. You will also have your own version of him with a different ID number. This is just how FamilySearch works to provide privacy. Once he has connected to a deceased ancestor, he will be able to see the full tree. Does that make any sense?
You can give him your username and password if you want him to see yours. It would still be good if he creates his own though.
When a person dies, all of the ID numbers combine into one.

Ummm ... not sure if I understood.
Did you check the IDs I posted? Both of us have already our own FS IDs. Diference is I have been creating the tree for the last 10 years, and he's just starting to get acquainted with ... obviously both of us alive.
Let's say he defines his ancestors (father and grandfather), in the moment he defines his grandfather (first deceased ancestor in the line), can he use the same ID from my own tree of the same person? Or he needs to complete the definition and then blend both together?

An additional question is: once he begins to have access to the deceased part of the tree, will he have the same access to the leaving persons part? How is he defined as my assistant (to used the assistant code) ?
This part of the procedure is not clear at all.

I understand now. Yes, once he has added all of his living ancestors, when he goes to ADD a deceased ancestor, he can either enter the information by name and FamilySearch will search for them, or you can click on the tab I have circled, "By ID Numbe" and put in the number for that ancestor. Once he has connected to that person, his tree will populate to the rest of his ancestors. Does that make sense?

Well ... it sort of does. Have to try it. Still the "assistant" stuff is unclear.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "assistant." I am glad you brought that up. Is that something new? Where do you see that?

Now his profile is connected to our first common decesed ancestor. But he still cannot access or find any of the hundreds of records of leaving persons I've created.
And I think that's why "assistants" were made for ... is just a mater of knowing how they should be defined and they work.

I am really interested in thie "assistants" feature you are talking about. Where did you learn about it? How does it work? I have been trying to find anything about it on the FamilySearch blog. Is it something they are still working on? Sounds like it will be great.

@Carol Lou Hill answered on your other posts.

Click on your profile, then take "Settings" option, after that, "Permissions" tag, in middle of the dialog you'll see "Helper Access" title, and a pin number uinderneath.
How can my nephew use that feature?

@AlvaroGonzalezFirpi You really should not put your Helper Number in public view. "Keep this number secure."

There's no problem once I can edit it any time. But anyway, thanks. I just wanted to show exactly where it was.
In fact, is already changed.

I will answer my own question ... just found this discusion:

It seems the "Helper" functionallity is exclusive to knowledgeable support people from the church ... which I'm not.
Is a pitty I cannot give access to the living part of my tree to somebody of my trust, to give me a hand with the investigation.
Anyway, many thanks to you both for answering me.

Ok, this is what he can do so that he can see your living ancestors and be able to help you with it.
- After he is signed in, he can click on the circle with the question mark in the top right and select Helper Resources in the bottom of the pop-up.
- Next have him click on the "Add Someone", and add your name and email. This will send you an invite for him to look at your tree. The invite will show right below the "Add someone "after you accept the invitation.
- He will then be able to go and see your living information by going back to the question mark, choosing Helper Resources, and them clicking on your name below the "Add Someone." You could also try this adding him to your helper resources and see how it work.
I'm interested to see if this will help.

You can also do the following as well.
He can click on "Help Others" when he is logged in.
Next, all he will need is your username and Helper Number.
Maybe this way is easier. He will just need your information so he can see you.
Let me know if you have questions about this!!

Ok @Carol Lou Hill , I'll try it tomorrow end let you know. Thanks again!

From your first method, he doesn't get the Planner dialog and consequent "Addsomeone" option.
I believe a "Planner" is a special figure associated to specific church members.

And from your 2nd method, is a gaina no-go ... he doesn't get the "Help others" option.
Again, I believe is reserved to church members.

I believe you are right about needing to be a member. They are working on a feature that is suppose to allow people to share this easier. They were going to release it this month, but it isn't ready, so it might be at the end of the year. Check back and see!
Thanks for trying it!
