    @Kathryn Natasha Conrad

    .

    Kathryn

    .

    FYI

    .

    For starters ...

    .

The "Helper Number" is used in, BOTH, "Help Others"; and, "(Consultant) Planner".

    .

The "Help Others"; and, "(Consultant) Planner", features/functions/facilities, are ONLY available, to Users/Patrons of 'FamilySearch', who ARE Members of the Church.

    .

Conversely, the "Help Others"; and, "(Consultant) Planner", features/functions/facilities, are NOT available, to Users/Patrons of 'FamilySearch', who are NOT members of the Church.

    .

    Now ...

    That said ...

    .

Provided that you are a Member of the Church ...

    .

ANY Member of the Church has the ability to HELP another (ANY) User/Patron in/through 'FamilySearch', there are two (x2) Options.

    .

    FIRST option ...

    .

The "Help Others" feature/function/facility - toward the Top 'right-hand-side' of a page or screen, being the SECOND Level Menu.

    .

    Help Others _ Icon.

Help Others _ Landing Page or Screen v2.

The "Help Others" function/facility/feature enables you to basically "Log In" as the User/Patron you are helping.

    .

You CANNOT do EVERYTING, that the User/Patrons can do with their Account; but, you can certainly act as their "Proxy" in doing most things.

    .

Remember, you basically SWITCH this "Help Others" function/facility/feature, ON; and, OFF, each time you use it - you have to go through the same "Access" process each time.

    .

The number that you "Enter" is actually the "Helper Number" of the User/Patron that you are helping.

    .

You have to obtain that "Helper Number" of the User/Patron that you are helping, directly from that person you are helping.

    .

The "Helper Number" for individual Users/Patrons can be found in an individuals "Settings" (under the "Permissions" 'Tab") in their 'FamilySearch' Account.

    .

The person that you are helping will have to look in their "Settings" (under the "Permissions" 'Tab") in their 'FamilySearch' Account to find out what that (Helper) number is; and, then, advise you.

    .

Here are some "Knowledge Articles" in 'FamilySearch':

    .

How do I use the Help Others link in Family Tree?

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-use-the-help-others-link-in-family-tree

    .

    What does a Helper do?

    .

Where do I find my helper number?

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/where-do-i-find-my-helper-number

    .

    Where it states:

    Quote

    ------------------

A helper number is a unique 5-character number associated with your FamilySearch account. It, along with your username, allows a helper or support person to see your Family Tree and assist you. You can find your helper number using the website, Family Tree mobile app, and Family Tree Lite.

    .

Helpers can do everything you can with a few exceptions:

    .

    • Helpers cannot access or make changes to your profile information.
    • Helpers cannot submit feedback or send and review messages on your behalf.
    • Helpers cannot see your Settings, Local Help, Training, and Resources page.

    ------------------

    .

    Also ...

    .

    • Helpers cannot 'Sign In' to Help a Deceased User/Patron
    • Helpers cannot ADD Comments to Memories

    ------------------

    .

    SECOND option ...

    .

You can also use the "(Consultant) Planner"; even if, you are NOT a "Stake/District, or, Ward/Branch, Temple and Family History, Consultant".

    .

Despite being a "Consultant" in my Ward and Stake, I ALSO use the "(Consultant) Planner" to HELP, Family and Friends, INTERSTATE in my Country; and, those located ALL around the World.

    .

The "(Consultant) Planner" ALLOWS you to keep a User/Patron, that you are most often "Helping", in the "Planner" for a period of x12 Months, after which you need to "Renew" the permission.

    .

"(Consultant) Planner" can be found under "Help" (ie. the "Question Mark" in the 'Circle') , down the 'Bottom' of the "Pop-Up" (aka: "Modal" 'Window'); and, selecting "Helper Resources", the "(Consultant) Planner" appears on the 'right-hand-side' of the resulting page/screen:

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helper

    .

Here is a "knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':

    .

How do I use the Planner to view another person's information in Family Tree?

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-use-the-planner-to-view-another-persons-information-in-family-tree

    .

IF, you have any 'Question' regarding the "(Consultant) Planner"; THEN let us know; as, that is another separate "Discussion", better to process one thing at a time.

    .

    I hope this helps.

    .

    Brett

I am trying to make a family tree with the help of my cousin in another state. Neither of us are members of the Latter Day Saints. Are we able to use Helper Access to collaborate or not? Is there any way to collaborate if not?

@fsdcdc, each of you should create an individual FamilySearch Account. Then each of you will be able to see all the same Deceased individuals, all the same sources, memories, relationships, etc. This is an attribute of having only One common tree for Deceased individuals. You will be able to communicate to each other through the FamilySearch messaging system.

Each of you will have to maintain your own Living individuals, because no one (Church member or not) can see anyone's Living for privacy reasons. Currently the "Helper" function and planner mentioned by @Brett . above is only available to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

We both have our own individual accounts. Can my cousin out of town see my tree? If so How?

@fsdcdc, like I said above, you will both see the same Deceased individuals. There is only ONE tree for the Deceased on FamilySearch. Yes you will both be looking at the same tree because there is only one tree for the Deceased.

Now this is different for LIVING individuals. Neither of you can see the other person's Living tree because of privacy reasons.

So when she signs on she will see herself (LIVING). Then she will add her LIVING parents and so on until she connects to a DECEASED person in FamilySearch's Family Tree. You will do the same.

For a better understanding you might want to view the Overview for FamilySearch's Family Tree at https://www.familysearch.org/tree/overview

This Help Article "How do I share information on Family Tree?" may be useful also. https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-share-information-on-family-tree

As an example, let’s say you have a Great Grandmother in FamlyTree. If you will look at her person/detail page you can see her PID, that’s her ID number that looks like X4ZA-B7D. You can give your cousin that PID and she can go to her Account in Family Tree and click RECENTS then put the number in and press enter. She will then be taken to the very same person as you have. She will see the same Relationships, Sources, Photos etc. that you and others have put in over the years.
