Reichenbach - marriage - 1869 - von Känel & Schütz - details
In the following civil marriage record, Rudolf von Känel, son of Abraham, married Sophie Schütz, daughter of Johannes. I know that they lived in Frutigen. I wonder if Johannes was from Sumiswald,, and I can't tell where Abraham was from. Rudolf was born in 1842. But I'm having trouble reading the rest of the record. Any help would be appreciated!

Pam,
Record number 37, Dispensation or special permission given on September 12, marriage on September 26 (other marriages on the page have three dates, some have special permission with only two dates. It looks like maybe they had special permission to shorten the number of banns before marriage).
Rudolf von Känel, son of Abraham and Elisabeth maiden name Strandf? from here, at Frutigen.
Sophie Schütz, daughter of Johannes from Sumiswald at Frutigen.
He was born on the 3rd and baptized on 24 April 1848 in this place, I think the next year is that he was confirmed in 1859 in Biel.
She was born on 12 May 1845. It think it says not baptized and there is no confirmation date either. I think the next line says "Verbrüderung nein" and I think that means that she did not belong to the parish group of Frutigan. Maybe she was another religion.
There are a couple of educated guesses here, but I'm pretty sure that my assumptions are accurate. If anyone has anything to add, please do.
Historical Dictionary of Switzerland (hls-dhs-dss.ch)---Look at the surname of Schütz in the canton of Bern and it helps us read the name of the town that the surname is from.

Let me start with a recommendation: whenever a record may be viewed freely (I mean: from home) on the internet, add the link (right now: https://www.query.sta.be.ch/Dateien/19/D96198.pdf#page=81). This gives members a chance to view it with higher resolution and also allows scrolling through neighbouring pages, which often is useful. Unfortunately the image quality of scans from the Bern State Archive site is often suboptimal - and I am not absolutely happy with my transcription either.
The von Känel family from Reichenbach is already being discussed on https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=4007; the marriage entry 1869 in Reichenbach is mentioned on https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=4007&start=90#p120184, also the official (state) wedding certificate is displayed there; on https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=4007&start=90#p120185 Rudolf's baptismal entry is given - which is much easier to read and helps to read the marriage entry.
The second column lists the announcements. I interpret this such that on Sep 26 the planned marriage was announced in Reichenbach, the last announcement and the only in Reichenbach. Previous announcements were in Frutigen only (where both partners lived); I believe to see a "12" in the small writing - would fit announcements on Sep 12 and 19. The last line in the main column reads "Verkündungsangabe vom (Pfarramt?) Frutigen", i.e. information on announcements came from Frutigen.
The last column list the actual marriage: in Lausanne on 9 October - see state wedding certificate - I recognise "getraut durch" (married by) someone "de l'Etat Civil" (civil registry).
Now for the main text:
Rudolf von Känel, son of Abraham and Elisabeth Straussin, citizens of Reichenbach living in Frutigen
Sophie Schütz, daughter of Johannes, citizen of Sumiswald and living in Frutigen.
Groom was born 3, baptised 24 April 1842 (not 1848), citizen of Reichenbach, confirmed Easter 1859 in Biel.
Bride was born 12 May 1845 in …(?). That her baptism and confirmation are not mentioned has nothing to do with another denomination: the groom's info could be taken from the local church records - the bride's not, and only her dob was known. I cannot decipher her place of birth and don't find her baptismal entry in Sumiswald.
Two technical comments:
1) Unless you are registered with the Geneal-Forum (which is free and without obligation) you cannot view the attachments - just follow the links instead.
2) Some browsers do not interpret links to a given page in a pdf correctly and display the start page: scroll to the page number given at the end of the link.
Let me finish with another suggestion: I had proposed a structure for discussion titles on https://community.familysearch.org/de/discussion/129680/what-title-would-be-best-for-postings and hope for many opinions: what do you think about this? Alternatively you could just adopt this format in your future postings 😉. To use your posting as example, a good title would be Reichenbach - marriage - 1869 - von Känel & Schütz - details.

Hello Pam,
This copy (from familysearch) of the marriage record is higher resolution and the Bride's birth place might be easier to read.
Reference: Ehe-Rodel, Reichenbach (BE), year 1869, page 160, entry 37 for Rudolf von Känel and Sophie Schütz.

Thank you very much for the images, Debra: I have come to the conclusion that the word after the bride's date of birth is not a location (which I had assumed first - but didn't find) at all - I read now Nottäuferin, i.e. it was felt the new-born would not survive and an emergency baptism was done e.g. by the midwife. As in these cases there was no baptism in church some days later, there is no separate baptism date. I still feel the confirmation is not mentioned as it couldn't be looked up in the local church records. The parents lived in Frutigen - unfortunately the Frutigen church records are not available online.
As I have a few more questions, I would like to discuss with "local experts", I have described the situation on https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=121544#p121544. If you, Pam, or anyone else interested in the situation, want to make sure you don't miss answers, I suggest you register with the forum and "subscribe" to the topic - you will then be notified automatically by mail.

The discussion on Geneal-Forum was lively - and leads to a correction in my transcription: Nottäuferin instead reads Neutäuferin. Neutäufer are known as Apostolic Christian Church in the USA.
The Schütz family of Sumiswald (Rudolf's wife) was a Neutäufer family. In order not to confuse discussion too much, the discussion on the Schütz family has been split off into their own topic: https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=1977#p121564. This includes an entire page on the parents of Sophie Schütz and the family. Walter had found it on https://www.query.sta.be.ch/Dateien/19/D96927.pdf#page=24. It will likely be on film https://www.familysearch.org/search/film/004758469?cat=782034 (which I cannot open from home).
@Debra Palmer01 ... could you, please, check if the scan on familysearch is of better quality?
Again - anyone interested in the topic (and incoming future postings) is invited to register with the forum and "subscribe" to the topic.

Hello Wolf and Pam,
The scan on FamilySearch of the "page on the parents of Sophie Schütz and the family" is better quality. I've posted the page and also included the entire image (it might be needed to compare the scribe's handwriting).
Reference: Bürgerbuch (Täufer-Rodel), Staatsarchiv Bern, K Sumiswald 24, page 40, number 3, for Sophie Schütz.

Thank you very much for the images, @Debra Palmer01 !
So we have got:
Johannes Schütz, "Neutäufer", son of Hans and Verena Dreier, born 29 Apr 1814
Maria Meßerli (today Messerli), daughter of Christen from Blumenstein, born 04 Dec 1819
They got married 02 Hornung (= Feb) 1841 in Lausanne by the "Friedensrichter" (Justice of the Peace), i.e. no marriage at a church. I am not sure about all details of the following sentence, but the marriage was officially recognised in Bern on 18 Jun 1841. The civil marriage itself would not have been possible in Bern in 1841.
3. Sophie was born 12 May 1845 in Erlenbach (likely the one in Bern - there is another one in Zürich): the pastorate in Erlenbach had confirmed the testimony by the midwife Haller.
Siblings: Johannes had been born in Blumenstein, Caroline in Wimmis, Luise … Rosina in Frutigen.
