Editing Stories
We were told if we waited a while the edits would appear in our stories. I have tried and this seems to work but it is difficult when we can't see it for hours or more. Is it the same with the Story Titles?

After I submitted a change/edit that I had typed in the story my changes disappeared. I thought I'd try to copy and paste it from a word document but no luck with that either. It’s been 24 hours and I’m still waiting for it to appear. I also tried it on my home computer and at a FamilySearch Center but it doesn’t seem to be taking any changes/edits. The funny thing is I submitted the edits several times so one of these days I may have the strangest looking story in the history of stories when they all appear. lol

I just tried to replicate this, but I couldn't. When I edit a Story, it seemed to work fine. Also, if I open a photo then edit the story attached to that photo, the edits adjust immediately. As did the title.
I'm wondering if this is happening because you are trying to edit a story that was written in the old version of Memories? Are you working in Family Groups, or just the standard FamilySearch?
If you have any other thoughts, please share. Thanks!

The edit that I did this morning is now showing, but yesterdays edits aren't. I'm not sure exactly how long it took to appear but I just tested it again with the same story and the edit disappeared again. I'll check it every hour or two and let you know when it finally updates.
Also when I add a new title to a photo or a new story to a photo it is working fine. For some reason it's just the existing stories that don't get updated instantly. Interesting.
You asked about the story being in the old version and I'm pretty sure it is. I started this story in March of 2023 as a journal of interactions with someone. I've been updating the story every two or three weeks without an issue until yesterday. So maybe that's the issue, it's just an old story entered in the old version. Also like I mentioned I first noticed it yesterday when using one of the computers in the Ogden FamilySearch Center so I'm sure it must be related to my old existing story and not the version of FamilySearch. I'll just start a new story as that seems like the best solution, it's not a problem.
Thanks for looking into it and getting back with me so fast!!!

May 11th, 2024—Story edits do not show up in the browser used to edit the story until browser cache is cleared. The edited text does show on the details page thumbnail.
The same story edit does appear in a different browser on the same device, or for a different device [not necessary to sign in to see the edit.0 -
Thank you @davidjohnjasper and @Miss Jessie for sharing your "work arounds" and your fixes. We appreciate your help!

I was told today that this issue has been resolved. "Stories were not displaying recent changes. Now the story will refresh immediately when a new change is saved."
Hopefully your experience is improving. Thanks again for your feedback!

Apparently this issue continues to be a problem. When you edit a story and save the changes, the edits do not appear to save.
It might be Chrome specific. Let me know if that seems to be the problem for you.
The Engineers are aware. I will move it back to the "Currently Working On" section in our Known Issues. Thanks!

This issue has not been resolved. When editing stories changes are not retained.
What I have observed is the following:
Changes to actual content are not being retained. Yesterday, as a test, I went in and updated a story (added additional content) I also made it a point to update the first sentence. A very simple update - just a number in the first sentence.
What I observed was that - after a bit - the preview of the story in the memories section, picked up the change, but NOT the actual story. The actual story remains the same. I am sitting here looking at it now. The preview shows the change but when clicking on the story, the actual change is not appearing.
I understand that the code is old, however, there is a reasonable expectation that simple changes to text should be retained.
A few other observations:
- Changes to the title of the story are retained - that part is good
- This is not a browser issue. The above issue of content not showing is independent of the browser and OS being using used
- Preview works but again - the actual content to the story does not retain any information.
- The only workaround I have found is to take the content of the story- paste it into a document - update the document - resubmit the story and then delete the original.
