Full Text Search Feedback

FamilySearch has billions of historical records that have been digitized, but only a portion of these record images are currently searchable. This test of a full-text search for historical records uses artificial intelligence (AI) to transcribe images into text so they can be fully searched. This automated search will find information almost instantly, saving hours of manual searching. Using handwriting recognition software, we can convert an image of text into a machine-readable format. This gives you the ability to search the full text of these records before they are even indexed.

• While signed in on FamilySearch, go to FamilySearch.org/Labs.
  ... then choose from the resulting page the option to Expand your search with Full Text where you can select Go To Experiment. That gets you to the new tool.
• Full-Text Search - click Try it to turn on the experiment.
• Watch the Instructional Video that explains the process. This update from RootsTech 2025 discusses recent enhancements. This is also a handout from the RootsTech class.
• Known Issues - please review to see if your concern has already been identified.

As you create a new Discussion, select the down arrow, and then "Ask a Question". To allow the engineers to recreate the issue, please copy the URL showing the page with the issue, and paste the hyperlink (without pressing the enter key) in the comments. Include screenshots if possible and indicate your computer and browser info as a part of your report.
