Changes to Full-Text Search Filtering

As we continue to expand Full-Text Search with new collections, we know that it can sometimes be challenging to sort through a large number of results. To help make records easier to find, we’re introducing an improved filtering experience.

This new approach offers:

  • Greater visibility and easier access to filters
  • Consistency with common industry standards
  • The ability to select multiple filter options—such as neighboring counties—at the same time

It also sets the foundation for future enhancements we’re excited to share down the road.

The update will begin rolling out gradually over the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience during this transition and look forward to your feedback.

The new filtering is not user friendly. It is a horrible experience.

On the up side I will say that this new filtering thing is MUCH more mature than it was the first time it rolled out. Good work. And it is better in one respect ie in being able to select a couple counties or decades to narrow down to in one pass. Less clicks for that. Is it easier to use than the old filters? No, not all. My one substantive issue? It won't COLLAPSE. It uses up a wide swath of real estate on the screen and then hang there like an unwanted guest. If you put a little arrow button at the top which collapses it away and leaves a small button so I can open it again it would be just fine. This is pretty much the standard way filters are done. Anyway, as a said much improved over before.

Bonus though - I SO wanted to just change the name I was searching for by clicking on it and changing it but instead I had to pop up an Edit Search window and edit that which seemed like Extra Work. In a perfect world …

Never mind. I used the new filtering this morning for the first time and it did not display the counties once I selected the state. No counties appeared at all when I selected the state. I wrote a note here about that but I just tried it and now it is working, so "never mind". I can't seem to delete this note so I have edited it.

    Thank you for FTS!
