Where did some of the early Gausdal, Norway, indexes go?

Just recently I noticed that a lot of the indexed Gausdal records were missing. Here is an example of one: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NCBR-4LK When I search for Siri with this film number nothing comes up. Where did they go? Thanks!

@CeliaSmith1 It looks like this collection is a Legacy Collection. See here for more details:

Thanks. I tried IGI and Norway, Baptisms, 1634-1927, without any luck so I assume some of the Gausdal indexing records are gone. It looks like my best bet to access the old index records for Gausdal might be:

Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927 - Ancestry

    @CeliaSmith1

According to the Source Information on Ancestry, their "Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927" is derived from the FamilySearch collection of the same name.

It appears Ancestry might have been provided with exclusive rights to publish this FamilySearch collection.

This certainly seems to be the case when it comes to a number of records that currently can be viewed on Find My Past. There is an acknowledgement at the bottom saying "Courtesy of FamilySearch Intl." but upon checking the FamilySearch website they are nowhere to be found.

I'm sorry; perhaps I was not clear.

The index-only collection is on FamilySearch with 5,277,294 records.

The Ancestry collection is also index-only. Ancestry counts a bit differently, showing 21,741,178 records. It was last updated in 2014. When searching on Ancestry, the user can even specify "FHL Film Number" which is the microfilm number rather than the DGS number.

    @Áine.ní.Donnghaile

Sorry, it looks like it was me who has misunderstood the issue. However, I did try a search from within that collection, for the "Siri" referenced above, and could not get the desired result(s).

See screenshot below (at https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/record/results?count=20&q.birthLikePlace=%C3%98stre%20Gausdal%2C%20Oppland%2C%20Norway&q.fatherGivenName=gunder&q.fatherGivenName.exact=on&q.givenName=siri&q.givenName.exact=on&f.collectionId=1467014 )

    image.png

I deliberately left out the father's last name but recorded the place name as shown by the OP. I also tried different criteria (including 1703 year of birth), as well as carrying on a further search from the Norway, Baptisms, 1604-1927 collection (see https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/record/results?count=20&q.anyDate.exact=on&q.anyDate.from=1703&q.anyDate.to=1703&q.givenName=siri&q.givenName.exact=on&f.collectionId=1467014 ), which confirmed the record in question is not to be found there.

My questions are: (1) Can it be found from a search at Ancestry? and (2) Even if it is part of a Legacy collection, surely it should be found somewhere on the FamilySearch website? Unless, of course, the record custodian has since withdrawn publishing rights for FamilySearch. Maybe the issue is as simple as that.

I don't want to try editing the above again, as I already messed up the formatting in doing so earlier. However, please put me right if I am still missing the point and / or there are any suggestions as to where the Gausdal records - this one in particular - might still be found (today).

    Good morning, @Paul W
Yes, the name can be found in a search on Ancestry. However, the name has been user-edited and no longer matches exactly. Also, Ancestry categorizes the place name a bit differently.

    Name
    Siri Gundersen
    [Siri Maelum]
    Gender
    Female
    Baptism Date
    28. mar 1703 (28 Mar 1703)
    Baptism Place
    Ostre Gausdal,Opland,Norway
    Father
    Gunder Maelum
    FHL Film Number
    125547

On FamilySearch, isolating my search to film number 125547, only marriages are listed in that collection. Since it is an index-only collection, I can't verify, but the issue could be related to the one we've recently encountered with records migrating incorrectly to a different location or a different record type.

Looking at the catalog, the film in which Siri's christening record is found is still referenced:

However, something has definitely happened to the index.

In the past, clicking on the batch number would bring up all the entries for christenings from that film:

Now, no records come up. These records also seem to be now be missing from the Norway, Baptisms collection.

Going back to the catalog entry: https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/koha:347480 There is this notification:

This makes me wonder if the Norwegian archives are pulling back permissions for publishing their records. Fortunately their site is free and has a very good search system for the transcriptions there. Unfortunately they do not have a transcription for the parish records for Gausdal for the early 1700s.

Thanks to all for your help!!! I am glad for now I can use the indexes on Ancestry.com for 1690's and early 1700's Gausdal.

I'll take a look at DGS 8681028/Film 125547 next time I visit my affiliate library or FamilySearch Center to see what is available. Stay tuned.

The baptisms for 1703 begin on Image 46/776 of DGS 8681028, Item 1. The year ends on Image 52. The limited-access images are still available.

I salute the indexers who worked on these records. I can pick out a few dates, but I couldn't find the specific record for Siri or her father. Based on the dates, the record should be on Image 47.

Downloading is disabled, but all other features function. The records are marked as "not yet indexed."

Sorry I can't be of more help.
