Why are added names put in same household?

When viewing probate records, located via Catalog Search and then Full Text Search, the software allows adding names. That's good. But it puts additional names in the same household. That is not correct; some aren't even related. I didn't see any field relating to household when adding names.

EDIT: I figured it out but it's awkward that it puts each name in a household.

That does seem odd, given that households have no official role whatever in probate! (See any number of Victorian novels.)

There are some oddities associated with probate. For England and Wales probate calendar entries, the index file records the executors as beneficiaries, which is incorrect (although they might be). In some administrations, those might be the correct roles, but not England and Wales, so a little caution is essential.

(In theory, there is a job in the FS system to correct the roles so I'd love to be proven behind the times!)

I think "household" has been used as a general - if inaccurate - grouping term in some indexes.

For example, the contact for a man registering for the US draft is listed as part of his household. The name could be his employer, his sister in another state, or just a nearby friend who will know where he is living.
