Part of me feels like this is some bull, because I searched my dad who is alive and well. I know info about him and when I went to search nothing came up! I must be doing something wrong

Thank you for your question. Locating living individuals on FamilySearch can be difficult because the system is designed to protect personal privacy. Information about living people is intentionally limited, and profiles for living individuals are private to the account that created them. For the same reason, the Community guidelines do not allow sharing names, contact details, or other identifying information about living persons.

If you are trying to reconnect with someone or gather information about a living relative, you may have better results using external resources such as Facebook groups, local community pages, or public directories like Whitepages, or even general search engines such as Google. These platforms are designed for locating living individuals, while FamilySearch focuses on historical records and deceased ancestors.

We appreciate your understanding and your efforts to keep the Community a safe and respectful place for everyone.

@Jay70337 If you are looking for your dad's deceased relatives for genealogy purposes, start by entering the name of the deceased relative closest to you ie your grandfather or great-grandfather, then FamilySearch can give you lots of possibilities. If you need help with historical records or any part of FS then this Community is a great place to get answers, help with research tasks, etc. Best wishes

@Jay70337 You can likely find a few records about your father, depending on how recently he was born. I can find a few records online about myself, and even for the next younger generation.

You won't find his profile on FamilySearch because it will be private to the person who has created it as long as he is living. You can create a profile for him and attach the records you find for him, and then connect him to his parents and earlier generations.
