Lookup: California Marriage Index — bride , groom's surname unknown
I'm doing family-history research and trying to recover one public-record fact: the married surname of a woman named (name removed).
What I know:
• Bride (maiden name): (name removed) — daughter of Romanian-Jewish immigrants (the family went Romania → Israel → Canada).
• Groom: first name (Name removed); surname unknown — this is exactly what I'm trying to learn.
• Marriage: California, about ( information removed) (the year is solid; the exact day is approximate).
• County: unknown (possibly Los Angeles or the San Francisco Bay Area).
Could anyone with access kindly check:
(1) California Marriage Index, 1960–1985 — bride(name removed) (also try (name removed) ), 1979. It should list the groom's full name and county.
(2) If nothing there, the California Birth Index, 1905–1995 — mother's maiden name “(Name removed) ,” roughly 1980–1995. A child's record would reveal the married surname.

I was up late/early and saw your post before the names were removed. I did a few searches, but I did not find any conclusive results. There were wives/mothers with that surname, but none with that given name. There are children with a mother of that surname, but the birth index does not have the father's given name, so I could not confirm if the child or children were of the correct couple.2 -

Your point about the birth index is exactly the key for me: in that index the child’s surname would be precisely the married surname I am trying to recover, so those “children with a mother of that surname” are the lead I need.
Two quick follow-ups, staying within the Code of Conduct (no living-person names):
- Do those California Birth Index entries display the mother’s given name? If so, are any of them consistent with the fairly uncommon given name I mentioned? That would let us confirm the right couple even without the father’s given name.
- 2) If it is permissible, I would be grateful to learn the surname(s) attached to those children — or, if you would rather keep it off the public thread for privacy, I am very happy to continue by private message.

No, the CA birth index does not display the mother's given name, only her birth surname.
Have you tried accessing the CA Birth or Marriage indexes again? I saw your other post about being unable to access. The website and search are working.
