Latin as Language??

When will "Latin" be added to reflect the latin forms of many given names? I brought it up at last Rootstech and it was to be added within 90 days. It hasn't been acted on.

I am getting annoying with those who do not understand the Latinized names came from the church records. Never the civil records.

And I have been in contact with my cousins in Germany, and they said German as main form and Latin needs to be added in "Also Known as" All family history books in Germany are published in German, not Latin names.

Getting annoying with no response about this particular yet very simple issue.

Latin appears extensively in Catholic parish registers, civil transcripts, and early modern administrative records across Europe and the Americas. While FamilySearch provides handwriting guides and word lists, researchers and indexers frequently encounter Latin in ways that would benefit from expanded language support.

Thank you for raising this thoughtful point. I recommend submitting a suggestion through the Suggest an Idea feature for consideration of adding Latin as a supported research language within FamilySearch tools—particularly in areas such as auto‑suggested indexing terms, translation aids, and Labs‑based transcription features. Enhancing support for Latin would strengthen accuracy in historical records and benefit global indexing efforts without requiring full interface localization.

I also checked for any announcements from RootsTech and did not find statements indicating that Latin would become an official language option within the 90‑day period. If you find this, could you please add the URL. Thank you.

Thank you again for taking the time to offer ideas that help make FamilySearch a better product for everyone.

I asked about it the next day in person and was informed within 90 day.

Same with AI text for German language records. ready by end of June. And I have yet to see this feature, too.

    1) Did you see the person or their assistant write down your suggestion? Perhaps send a private message to @sc woz with the name(s) of the person(s) who stated "90 days".

    2) The Suggest an Idea thread is closed. Collaboration is now discouraged. All suggestions are to be via submitting a form. The team may ask questions, but no updates will be provided. Link is on the thread's page:

    3) If you find any records errors, that too is no longer a collaborative effort on the Community forum. Instead fill out a poorly designed form. For example, please see this closed discussion:

Suggest an Idea has been form-driven since some time in 2025 as I recall. My understanding is that it, and also the Feedback form and the new Records Issues one, now drive structured workflows inside FS via a service they call 'boards'. I think this is a positive development overall, but it doesn't currently allow for post-submission collaboration with end users as the old less structured processes did, and the Idea and Records forms definitely need usability work.
