Howdy and thanks in advance- I am looking for a declaration of intention for Angelo Zanata, filed Oct 30, 1917 (also Angelo J, also Zanatta). His place of residence at the time was Rittersville/Allentown PA and AI gave me DGS 007561265 and Declaration # 49303? That could be a hallucination but it keeps trying to link to Eastern PA District records (M1522). Place of birth was Italy (sometimes listed as Paese, sometimes Postioma), and dob is Oct 1878. Most frustratingly, I have seen the record before, but didn't save it.

All assistance and guidance is appreciated! - Heidi

    Hello @HeidiHardwick

    DGS 7561265 is a book index to passenger and immigration lists, rather than the actual naturalization record.
    https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/koha:291926
    Passenger and immigration lists index : a guide to published records of more than 720,000 immigrants who came to the New World between the sixteenth and the mid- twentieth centuries/ edited by P. William Filby with Mary K. Meyer

    WorldCat shows the book available at quite a few libraries: https://search.worldcat.org/title/639641328

    The likely FS Tree profile, for anyone else who wants to look: https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/GCXJ-L5F

    @HeidiHardwick Is the profile I linked above the correct man? The dates and places match your description, but I don't see any connection to Pennsylvania, for a naturalization there.

    There is a 1923 naturalization for a similar name in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, Western District). That record is not restricted. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9LR-572G

    @HeidiHardwick
    I believe you know this already, but I'll post it for others that may help.

    Postioma is a neighborhood/hamlet within the town of Paese. So, in Italian, it would be a frazione of the comune Paese.

    So, I suppose it would be written as Postioma, Paese, Treviso, Veneto, Italia, but when searching for relevant records, one would need to focus on Paese, Treviso, Veneto.

    Sadly, as you may have found, there's a large gap in those records with online birth records only beginning in 1884 for periods after unification. And, the Antenati site only has records from 1806 to 1815.

    @HeidiHardwick

    Angelo Zanatta and Giovanna Amabile Dametto were married on Ellis Island when Giovanna arrived in New York.

    Read this article:
    https://www.archives.nyc/blog/2023/10/13/marriage-contracts

    Their marriage contract was signed 7 August 1905 and filed 22 August 1905, see here:
    https://www.newyorkfamilyhistory.org/online-records/marriage-contract-index-new-york-city-municipal-archives-1902-1907/2667266

    It was ultimately reported to the Italian Consulate in New York and then a copy was sent to Italy and record in Paese in 1909. See here, #4:
    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-899H-DS61

    I believe that you can order a copy of these documents from the NYC Municipal Archives - the cost is usually very low.

    Thank you @Áine.ní.Donnghaile for mentioning the 1909 record to me that was in Angelo's source list!
