Hi there FS!

I reached out via email and I was directed to make a post here to get some help checking on the restriction of film 7730484 within this catalog set: https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/koha:536151

Could someone check to see if this restriction is correct and/or how I might be able to retrieve a document from within it? I am located within the United States, so I don't think it's a location based restriction. Thanks for the help!

@XAmen Item 1 on this film has birth records to 1924 and permissions are set for the whole film and not for individual item numbers. 1924 is over one hundred years ago but I do not know the terms of the contract to determine if that is an error. This looks like a good candidate for review and I will send it in.

Thank you! Your help is much appreciated.

@SerraNola I have one additional question, is the film reel description correct. Looks like the description (added below) states the year 1866 to 1892?

    Records of births v. B2-B4(p. 1-82) 1866- 1892

    @XAmen
That DGS has multiple parts. Items 2-4 cover up to 1892. Item 1 on the same film/DGS covers up to 1924.

@XAmen The Film #007730484 is listed as having the following dates.

I clicked on the "Records of births, marriages, and deaths, 1866-1909 (below).

Records of births, marriages, and deaths, 1866-1909 Author: New Britain (Connecticut). Registrar of Vital Statistics

It brought up the Records of births v. B2-B4 (p.1-82) 1866-1892. (That you asked about).

    Records of births v. B2-B4(p. 1-82) 1866- 1892

    FamilySearch Library

United States & Canada B1 Floor Film

    1318143 Items 2-4

It shows those dates on Film #1318143, ITEMS 2-4.

I clicked on the camera (and the film # at the top right was still showing ##007730484)

I checked those items, and this is what I found. (I only did a cursory check of the first couple of images at the beginning and end of Item 3 and 4. An index was at the end of Item 2).

    Item 2 began January 1866

Item 3 began January 1880 and went to the 13 November 1886

Item 4 began April 1887 and went through 5 December 1889.

So unless a few dates from 1889 - 1892 were mixed in with the others (throughout Item 4), the birth records only seem to go through 1889.

@LoveSunshine62 apologies, I am not sure I am following what you mean by clicked the camera and reviewed the film? Do you mean you went to a FS center to review the items?

@XAmen Sorry for the delay in replying!

    Catalog Film#7730484.png

Also, when you click on the camera to look through the film; make sure that you pay attention to the ITEM numbers on the film. There were 4 items on this film, and for that area and date you were interested in, you will have to look through items 2-4.

    Catalog Film#7730484 2.png

If the camera has a line through it, you will have to view the film at the family history library/center to see the full film.

This is because of licensing regulations from the individual churches or places that the records were kept, and then made available to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to film.

    Does this help?

    @LoveSunshine62

It would appear you may be viewing with a church member account.

That record group, viewed with a public account:

@Áine.ní.Donnghaile Thank you for that clarification.

@XAmen The film would have to be viewed at a family history center.

If you do not have a Family library/center near your home & just need one item, I would be happy to find it for you.

If that record set could be viewed at a FamilySearch Center with a public account, the message would be different:

@XAmen Let's try to clarify this for you.

Thank you, @LoveSunshine62 for validating the coverage dates on Items 2-4 on this film. Clearly, the records in that part of the film are well over 100 years old and should likely be fully accessible. Item 1, however contains birth records up to 1924. I do not know if that is what is triggering the No Access, but I can't find any other obvious reason. As I stated previously, it appears permissions are being assigned at the group level and not the item level, and we do not know what the rules are in determining which records are viewable online for this collection. It's also possibile this is an error to be corrected in a pending update.

Our rights management team recognizes there are a lot of accessibility challenges for patrons and answers for film restrictions are not always straightforward. We appreciate your patience as engineers work through these challenges.

Thank you for all of the help everyone! It does look like I have a Family Search Center local to me. I will take a trip down there this weekend and follow up with any questions. I appreciate all of your help and generosity!

@XAmen This film is not accessible at a FS Center. I should have clarified that too, as there was some confusion in this thread. The permissions for this film are No Access for anyone, including LDS accounts and including FSC's and AL's. Make note of Áine's reminder above that if a film is available at a FSC, you should see it in the hover message.
