Civil registration of births and deaths began in Ireland in 1864. Before that time, you'll be looking for Church records. Knowing the religion of the family will be essential.

I know Cushendall, County Antrim very well. It is a small town, population is about 1200 people on the coast at the end of one of the Glens of Antrim. McCurry is still a strong name in the town and surrounding area.

I see you have built John Richard McCurry's family tree in FamilySearch and that he was a seaman in the British Merchant Navy. Sea faring is a profession many from Cushendall have pursued for generations and still pursue today. There is a seaman's plot in the Catholic Church Graveyard at Waterfoot, the next town along the Antrim coast, where many of the men of Cushendall who have died at sea over the years are buried.

Have you investigated building out the family trees for others named McCurry from Cushendall to see if you can find a link back to your John Richard McCurry?
