Getting Error 15 Message

I am all of a sudden getting Error 15 messages in many different ways and hope I can get some help.

  1. I am able to log in to FS, as well as FS Groups without a problem
  2. When logged into FamilySearch, I can search records as normal BUT when I select Research WIKI, I immediately get the error message
  3. If I do ANY kind of google search that leads me to ANY kind of familysearch link, if I select the link I immediately get the error message.

It is happening in both Firefox and Google Chrome. . I do have an outdated operating system but browsers are updated.

Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated

Many of us experienced Error 15 messages earlier this week, but I haven't had one in a couple of days. I found it most problematic when trying to access the Books section of FamilySearch, either from the original catalog or the newer libcat.

Here's one thread from a few days ago:

A VPN can also sometimes cause an Error 15 message. If you have a VPN enabled, try turning it off.

    Good luck!

Thank you for replying, I do not have a VPN, What really has me confused is any link to FS from a google search ect gives me the message.

Thank you for mentioning I'm not the only one! Hopefully others will also reply with some suggestions.

@Harleynut97 There were some tech difficulties producing Error messages through the weekend, but I think they have been resolved. Please let us know if this continues to be a problem for you.

@SerraNola Unfortunately, still getting Error 15

    1) when logged into FS I only get the message when selecting "search Wiki" Everything else on FS while logged in works great.

    2) If I google something and it shows me links to a FS link and I press it, I immediately get the error 15 message.

    Thanks for replying

One thing I try, in order to sift out causes of things like this, is to open up a browser in Private or Incognito Mode, log onto the site I'm using and see if the issue still happens.

In your case, to see if you still get Error 15.

Hi, and thank you for replying. I'll give that a try later today and report back. The biggest frustration is not so much the WIKI but all the other errors when following a link to ANY Familysearch page

I tried the Firefox Private browser and still get the Error 15 when selecting search—-research WIKI. But may have had some improvement on selecting family search links from google searches.

I suppose we could try the Microsoft Edge browser, again, in Incognito mode, to see if you still get the Error 15 issue.

If it still happens, there may be an issue farther into your computer that requires a repair to the OS. That's farther than I can give guidance on here, simply because there's some room for error between giving the instructions and the person try to apply the instructions. It has to do with the System File Checker command and a related one.
