New FamilySearch Merge

There is a problem with the new FamilySearch merge. I do not have a way to select which marriage I want. The same spouse shows in both the first and second columns. However, if I continue with this merge, I will lose the marriage date and place.

    Good morning @JMS

There is a dedicated group for Feedback https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/346-improved-merge-experience monitored by the engineers.

    Hope this helps.

This problem has been reported over in that other group multiple times and we've been told the engineers are working on it.

When you get to the second page of the Merge process (Choose which information to save or bring over) - You can choose to 'replace' the husband with the side with more detailed marriage date, even though it is the same PID (as shown in your example).

This option is not evident in the first page of Merge, as the question is 'are these the same people?'.

The other method to gain this benefit is to click that 'Switch' at the top between the two merge candidates. Get the more detailed person to be the recipient of only minor updates. All information is saved either way; and the only thing that changes with this is the Surviving Person PID number.

@Jack Hern His image is for the new Merge where there is no first page, second page, or third page, just the one page he posted. This is a known shortcoming of the new merge that they are working on improving. Currently the marriage information you want to keep has to be on the right side.

I liked the old merge experience better than the new one because, for me at least, it is more confusing to have all the comparison information on one page. If the analysis is in understandable steps than I think we can more easily make accurate merges. I do not believe that the new merge experience accomplishes that. I have merged ancestors using both methods.
