Source linker not searching for existing person in FamilyTree
Why does Source linker no longer search for existing person in FamilyTree. When you add a person from a record it uses the information and just creates a new one which makes for duplicates if that individual was already in the tree. Previously the source linker searched FamilyTree and brought back suggested individuals which were then able to be linked to the source.

@Judith V Richardson - maybe the people that you were attempting to update or load via Source Linker couldn't be recognised in FS FamilyTree by the Source Linker routines? Hence it didn't have any to suggest…? This scenario is a case of their profiles might be there but the match wasn't good enough for Source Linker. It's a fine line between suggesting the wrong one and not suggesting anything…
Does this sound like a possibility?

I agree with the observation by @Judith V Richardson. Source linker is not searching for or suggesting existing profiles.
This happened to me in the past week. I had the person's profile open on another tab, so I knew that person existed. All pertinent dates and places matched exactly. Name was spelled exactly as it was on the record.
I thought that I could link that person via the source linker. But it did not pull up a suggestion. It just added a new profile. I then had to merge the two profiles.

@Judith V Richardson I have had the source linker provide good suggestions on several occasions over the last couple of days.
@Nyx773 Generally, you don't have to create a new profile in your case. Here is an example of how I could attach a daughter (Mary Ann) if I know her PID but the source linker doesn't offer her profile.
Click the VIEW RECORD button at the top left of the source linker page, then click the VIEW RECORD button in the right-hand side panel that is opened:

In the record page that opens for John, click the name of the required focus person (Mary Ann):

That displays the record page for Mary Ann. Click the ATTACH TO TREE button at the right side of the page:

Enter the known PID for Mary Ann and click SELECT. This will open the source linker with the Mary Ann as the focus profile.

That is a lot of steps that I was trying to avoid. I tried to do a shortcut, hoping that the software would suggest the correct person, but no suggestion was made.

When you did the final merge, were the profiles flagged as duplicates by FS? Also, was there an active hint for this source against the un-picked-up profile, and if not, was there perhaps a previously dismissed one? These are key points I think, especially the dismissed-hint one which could easily have given rise to these symptoms, I suspect.
It would be useful if you could provide the PIDs of the 2 profiles.

@JulianBrown38 @Nyx773 there’s a quicker way, if you know the PID of the individual you want to attach and they’re not coming up as suggested by the source linker.
You’ll notice a blue bar in the source linker at the top of both columns. On the right hand side of each there’s a drop down menu titled “change person” (see @JulianBrown38’s first screenshot). Click the one in the right hand column and there will be a box to enter the PID of the individual you want to link to (much the same as 4th screenshot). Do so and the individual in question will come up as an option to select. They should then appear in the right hand column. If you need to change the primary person from the source in the left column to match, you can do so via the “change person” tab in the top left column.
This cuts out the steps of having to go via “view record” and navigate back and forth between multiple windows. Hope that helps.

@RaniM Thanks!
I do not remember which merge that happened. I thought it was a software design for it not to do that. If I had known it was a glitch, I would have made note and created a post.
I've been working on cleaning up the "Details" tab in a lot of PIDs - dozens every day. I tried to do a Find for "merge" in the "My Contributions" list. It only would find those PIDs that I appear when I have scrolled down the list. Since there are hundreds of names over the past week, it would take a long time for me to scroll and it's still unlikely that I would remember which merge that error occurred.
There was no hint to merge the 2 PIDS. But since I immediately merged them, the software may not have had a chance to find the duplicate.
