Custom Event created by Source Linker

Does any understand why the Source Linker gives the option to create a Custom Event for Marriage Status when attaching a Census Record as a Source? Most everyone is "Single" when they are listed as a child with parents. So having Custom Events for an individual profile indicating "Single", "Married", "Separated", "Widowed" seems to be unnecessary. Just sayin'
