My great-grandfather Michael Vitale (Michelaracangelo Vitale), died on July 19, 1908 in New York City. There is a probate document from court in Queens County New York. I cannot find his death certificate or burial site in Vital Records or in any of the civil or church collections. What other searches or sources can I try?

    Hi @Christine3362

I believe I've found the record you are seeking. Your great grandfather's name was misspelled on the record, but the facts coincide with the information in the probate file.

    Queens DC 2011

    Hope this helps.

I cannot believe that you found this so quickly. This is closer than we have ever been and we are so grateful for your help. If you have a moment, where did you even start looking for this?

Well … I've been at this a long time, and I know that spelling is often inconsistent.

I tried a few searches, using wildcards, but didn't have any luck. I eventually searched on using just the given name, Michael, and V* for the surname. Since I was confident of the date, based on the probate files (thanks for sharing that link), I could then skim through the few "Michael V*" listings in 1908. There was only one for Queens.

    You're very welcome.

@Christine3362 I've also found a small newspaper clip, also using the name "Vielo."
I'll send you the image by private message. Look for a red number by the envelope at the top right.
