Taking long to show related

Recently I notice that when I add a new person to an ancestor in FamilySearch (a spouse or a child), when I check the relationship, I am seeing a message that tells me I am not related to this new person, even though the parents or spouse are related to me! I may have to check back an hour or longer before their relationship is show, when before it would show right away. Why and how can this be corrected? Thanks.

And to add another issue along the same lines, I found an ancestor already in FamilySearch and connected them to my 7th cousin to me and spouse as their child, but the relationship for this child shows 16th cousin to me. Again, never seen this before.

I wonder if the databases on the backend of the system are just taking longer? If they're usually faster, but taking longer now, it could be that maintenance tasks are being run on the system. This is all speculation, naturally.

See if this behavior continues later on in the week.

As for why the tasks are being run on the computers and databases, with something this large, with this much data, if everything isn't kept super polished, the database can be corrupted in pretty bad ways.

Database backups for a project this size are quite monumental, but have to be run all the time.

Thanks. I did send a question into FamilySearch as well.

Recently the relationship viewer has been having problems and there have been multiple posts about the issue in various sections. We have been told the engineers are working to fix it. We have not been told if this is a bug that was inadvertently introduced with an update being installed, the routine being overloaded due to some of its new functions in regards to the Temple tab on the profiles, or if there has been some kind of hardware failure.

How quickly are you checking for the relationship after you have added a new person to into a family on Family Tree? While most of the time it only a few minutes to calculate this, there are times where it can take a few hours depending on how many others are adding data.

Thank you for your replies. For many years, it was instant that the relationships were shown. Even since FamilySearch has allowed only those who are related to them to do ordinance work has this issue of this delay in showing the relationship. I have sent a message to FamilySearch, patience is what is needed now to see what happens.

Engineers did find an issue this morning causing the relationship calculations to take longer than expected. It has been resolved and they are working on resolving any data entered the last couple of days. Please post if there are still situations where you have added a person, or even just a relationship, after Monday, Jan 6 around 9:30 am MST and it is still taking more than a couple hours.

We have continued to see some examples of this and fix more causes. We are aware some are still not updating quickly. Please continue to post here or contact support with your examples.
