Information on birth that may be contained in marriage certificate
Hello I am trying to find birth details for my grandfather Francis Vivian Miller who was born in England around 1893. He was married to Marjorie Harcourt Freeman on 22 March 1919 in Fiji
His father was Ernest Miller and his mother was Ellen Church
I am unable to find any birth information to him on the UKGRO and have tried looking at other birth records
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you
Ian

There is a Freemasonry record from Fiji under the same name with the same birth year available on Ancestry. Members on Ancestry have him on their tress with a suggested birth place as Stroud, Gloucestershire but with no source records.
Tried looking for a marriage between Ernest Miller and Ellen Church without success.
As you say, no birth records on the GRO with maiden name Church.
Sorry I cannt help more.

Thanks Graham
On his death certificate it says his mother was Ellen Miller with her family name at birth not recorded and it says his place of birth was England which is not very helpful
There is a marriage certificate between Francis and Marjorie Harcourt Freeman which i am unable to access but do not know if that has a record of his birth information

What do you mean by "with her family name at birth not recorded "? Are you suggesting that Miller might not be her maiden name?

Sorry probably not explaining myself, the New Zealand death certificate does not record his mothers Family name as being Church it just says not recorded

Hi , Is it possible that she was married before and that Church wasn't her birth name but former married name.
0 -
That may be a possibility yes but Church is the only name mentioned anywhere

I looked for a baptism without success.
Then I searched for a birth without a given name since children are not always named before registration. I found only 2 Miller births with a Church mother in the late 1880s to early 1890s. GRO has the only male indexed as Chemham Miller, and FreeBMD has it indexed twice, once as Chimbam and once as Chimham.MILLER, CHEMHAM CHURCH

Thanks for the reply I will certainly keep an eye open for him when looking for others. I'm assuming that the census records have been checked ?

Yes I have looked at the census but think they may have gone to Fiji before the 1901 census although can not find any ticket details for the family

Thanks I will have a look for the digital copy of this and see if there is a match although the name is very different to Francis

I have found information that he was born in Stroud on August 10 1892 handwritten by his spouse and his parents were married in Stroud with siblings Bill, Albert Alfred, and Cecilia but still unable to connect then to him
There is an Elihu Miller from Stroud with similar sounding siblings

There are two Franks registered around these dates in Stroud but neither of them are him

I was wrong as one of them is Francis Vivian Miller going by tracing through census's and tracing the father who has a completely different forename
