ERROR REPORT - Placename Standardization
Oh joy! Placename standardization has reared its ugly head in the 1950 census, applying a name from Colonial America to a perfectly correct modern-day place.
This is the record for my great uncle, his wife, and their son, who is my godfather.
They lived in the current place of Kearny, Hudson County, New Jersey, as shown on the census page. The placename algorithm has assigned them to New Barbadoes Neck, a name used in colonial New Jersey. https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/7978875

@Áine Ní Donnghaile, thank you for sharing this instance of the the auto-standardization problem. It seems to demonstrate that the process can error in both time and space. As you suggest, I will added this to the "oops" queue for review and resolution.
Thank you for the many assists in helping others understand the nature of this problem and the process in getting it fixed.
With you, I hope that we can get on top of this problem soon.

And here we can see that the word "original" no longer appears, making it much more difficult for us to determine the cause of the problem. Not a fan:
