Setting a Date Range for an Immigration search?
A 1920 US Census tells me my ancestor emigrated to the US in 1880. I enter my ancestor's name, country of birth, and birth-date range, and do an Immigration search. Yet I still have to wade through some 200 pages of search results, most of which are for passenger lists in the 1900's. Surely there must a way to refine my Immigration search to a range close to the desired Immigration year? I've suffered this problem numerous times, as no doubt have many others. Can anyone offer a solution to get around this problem. Thank you

If you begin your search in a database of arrival records, you have the option to set a date range of years for immigration.

@Áine Ní Donnghaile I did the following:
--Signed into familysearch.org
--clicked Search, Records
--clicked More Options
--Scrolled to Add Life Event. My screen is not showing the option of immigration (see image) any ideas why?
So I scrolled further down to Add Record Options and put a check mark in Immigration and Naturalization
All I can do then is Search....not sure how to add year range with this option.

Because you are doing a general search that includes all record types. As I said before, If you begin your search in a database of arrival records, you have the option to set a date range of years for immigration.
For example https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1849782

Dear @Áine Ní Donnghaile ,
Thanks a lot for your post, I really appreciated it, it's an approach to the search really interesting to me! In general this means that starting the search from a database of arrival records, it could be that different search options are available or just in case of immigration collections?
Thanks! Massimo

It's a personal preference for me to start from a narrower set of records. If I don't find what I need, then I can broaden my search parameters. And, yes, the search options do change depending on where you start your search.

@Massimo C. yes each database has different search criteria/options available. That is one reason why search may or may not find a particular record - maybe the search terms you've entered are not the primary fields for that database.

Dear @genthusiast ,
Thanks a lot also to you! I'll pay more attention to the additional fields in my future searches! 👍
