My chosen user name was previously shown in any posts, but now suddenly my real name is being used. Why has FamilySearch decided to make my name public ?

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

Question: Where are you 'seeing' your "Real" name?

    As an aside ...

Sometimes, User's/Patron's "Real" name appears; as, a "Contact Name" ...

    [ And, now, under one's "Profile", under either/both, "Name"; and/or, "ContactID" ... ]

Often, the "Contact Name", was originally set up with one's "Full" Name (often, with a "Numeric" 'Suffix' = ...1)

That CAN be "Changed", in the "Settings", of one's 'FamilySearch' Account.

With the NEW "Profile" 'Tab', in one's "Setting", you MAY need to "Change" things ...

    Settings ... Account Tab

    Settings ... Profile Tab [ ... NEW ]

    image.png

    And ...

    To "Edit" ...

    Plus ...

Here is a "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch':

How do I update contact information on my account?

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-update-contact-information-on-my-account

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-update-contact-information-on-my-account

    And ...

    About the FamilySearch Profile

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/about-the-familysearch-profile

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/about-the-familysearch-profile

    I hope, that this/these may help/assist, somewhat.

Nope, that doesn't work. I followed all your instructions and, when that didn't work, I read both articles and then tried again. But every time I try to save my changes, it says "Unable to save Profile Summary. Please try again" - exactly how many times do I have to keep on trying ???? There was a time when I could chat online to someone at FamilySearch, and they were always very helpful, but it seems that that facility no longer exists for people in the UK.

I've been signing in with my username for 12 years, and that is the name that's always been displayed ... up to now.

I am SO VERY ANGRY that FamilySearch has, after 12 years, decided to make my name public !!!

    Heather

    Just in passing ...

    Thinking out aloud, here ...

    Firstly ...

IF, you have not already; THEN ...

An "Oldie"; but, STILL, often, a "Goodie" ...

Have you to tried, 'Clearing', the 'Cookies'; &, the 'Cache', of your 'Browser' (&, even, 'Browsing History'), lately.

It does not always work; but, more often than not it does ...

    Then, trying again ...

    And ...

    Secondly ...

Question: What, "Browser"; and, "Operating System", are you using?

And, are the, "Browser"; and, "Operating System", that you are using, "Up-to-date"?

[ ie. With the LATEST (or, in the least, the PREVIOUS ] "Versions" of each ... ]

I principally use, the "Browser" of 'Google' "Chrome"; but, also, the "Browsers" of, (Often) 'Mozilla' "FireFox"; and, (Sometimes) 'Microsoft' "Edge", all with the "Operating System", of "Windows 10"; and, all with the LATEST "Versions" of each.

IF, your, "Browser"; and, "Operating System", are NOT using the LATEST (or, in the least, the PREVIOUS ] "Versions", of each; THEN, you may (or, I suggest, WILL) have problems/issues, using 'FamilySearch'.

    Plus ...

    Finally ...

    As an aside ...

IF, you are eventually successful; THEN, just be prepared; as, the actual "Changes", MAY take Overnight (ie. Next Day), to "Synchronise" (ie. take hold), between the various "Systems".

    Just my thoughts.

    Good Luck.

I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

    Hello @Heather Graham_5

I'm wondering what country you have set as your "Country or Location" in your Profile?

If you are unable to save your changes then I would recommend that you contact FamilySearch Support.

In the UK for Support you can send an email or you can schedule an appointment . For details see https://www.familysearch.org/en/fieldops/europe-contact-us.

    kind regards

Thank you, Western Detective - that's v.useful and it's good to know that I can still communicate with someone from FamilySearch, so I'll schedule an appointment.

I've made an appointment for 11:30 UK time - and that is what it says in the confirmation email from FamilySearch. But I see on the webpage that the appointment is for 10:30 UTC time - so now I don't know whether I should be logging in at 10:30 or 11:30. Does anybody else know, please ??

@Heather Graham_5 I would go with the UK Time of 11:30.

UTC is one hour behind BST (the time in London). I guess Daylight Savings is in play.
