I found the "Genealogical Misconceptions" link quite funny and a bit absurd. 1- my family tree is full of famous people, 2- I already have the first 7 generations full and still not a single "early baby", 4- I have yet to find a single poor ancestor in my family tree, and have traced many lines up to the early 1500's, 11- found it, 12- with Napoleon and decorated, with official documents.
Yes, I understand that my family tree is quite unusual, but such cases exist.

Regarding point (2): In the most recent 6 generations of my ancestors, there are 4 direct ancestors born out of wedlock, 2 additional ancestors who had children out of wedlock, and at least two marriages that were less than 9 months before the birth of the 1st child. I'd imagine it's quite rare to have zero occurrences of this in one's tree- even if your ancestors belonged to religions that made sure illegitimacy never occurred by marrying the parents before the birth, there'd still be a number of "early" babies.

All of my Belgian ancestors between 1700 and 1950 come from fanatical catholic families from the upper classes. I'm also family of many famous catholic priests in history. Practically each family had one son that became priest, and dozens of daughters became nuns. From such extremely religious families it's not complicated to see why they'd make sure than they were married on time.

I am half Dutch, and I agree that middle/upper class Catholics were the least likely to be involved in illegitimacy.
