Private Memories

I am using the memories app for journaling. I am fine with all of my memories being visible when I die, but occasionally I have a memory that I do not want to mark as public right now.

My concern is that the memories I mark private will remain private if I die.

Does anyone know if Family Search has a process to make private memories visible at some point after an individual's death?

Family Search doesn't have a process at the present time to make private memories visible after a person dies. They remain private. Any memory that is not marked as private is potentially visible to the public, even when you are still alive.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

Further to; and, in support of, what 'Richard' has already proffered ...

Here is a "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch':

What happens to the accounts of deceased users?

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/what-happens-to-memories-submitted-by-a-deceased-user

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/what-happens-to-memories-submitted-by-a-deceased-user

Where, it states, among other things:

    Quote

    ------------------

If the user has added private memories, those memories are not made public. The system is set to keep private any memories designated by a contributor as private.

    ------------------

I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

it is in essence a legal contract between you and FamilySearch - you marked the item as private - and they will fulfill with their agreement to keep it private - whether you are alive or dead.

one thing that many people do is to leave it as public and leave off the title and description of the item - which makes it (almost) impossible to find it via the FIND option.

but technically the item is accessible if someone figured out how to get to the url.

I personally don't recommend marking items as private for that same issue you brought up - but simply leave off titles and descriptions.

If something is super sensitive then don't upload it in the first place.

also you can place your items in a ALBUM and share the album URL with JUST the people that you want to find those items (that may not have titles and descriptions)
