What does the check box found in some posts do?
Some posts in the various groups have a check box next to the bookmark button in the upper right of the original post. I've check it on and off here and there but can't tell what it is for or what it is supposed to do. What is it?
Also, since this is not an Idea, but rather a question, it does not really seem to fit in this category. Why is there not a category for Communities under Q and A?

Absolute guess here…
Since the right hand icon seems to be for bookmarking the discussion, does the check box turn on some kind of "following" capability?
After all, "following" appears to be a very important word these days…

@Gordon Collett the checkbox is used for administration of a lot of items at one time. I checked you account and it appears early on you had more rights than you should have had. You should no longer be seeing the checkbox.

Thanks for the explanation. The check boxes are indeed gone now.

I might suggest giving Gordon (particularly) the 'right' to access these features AND be allowed to respond might be of great help to this forum's administration.

@CaptBob, thanks for the vote of confidence, but I really don't think I want actual responsibility!

Now that there is a Community category under Q&A, could this topic be moved there, please?
I see this mystery check box. As far as I know I have no special powers, so could the box be made to go away?
On many FS pages the active areas of buttons do not quite match their image areas. Consequently, I sometimes check the mystery box by mistake when meaning to bookmark a topic. I worry that I might be "doing" something regrettable when this happens. If the mystery box must be seen by contributors, could it be moved a little farther away from the bookmark button?

Hello @dontiknowyou,
The checkbox should only show for elevated rights. I’ve checked your account and you should not be seeing this. If you see the checkbox again, would you please message me the link to thread it is visible on?
Also, I’ll move this per your suggestion.
Best,
Mark

The check boxes were gone from my account for a couple of months, they have been back for the past month or more. I see them on every single initial post on every topic in every section and group.
A Group Example: https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/104593/fs-record-incorrectly-transcribed#latest
A Q and A example: https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/104799/tangled-mess-how-do-i-fix-it#latest
An Ideas example: https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/104799/tangled-mess-how-do-i-fix-it#latest
I would suspect that everyone always has them now but haven't noticed them or can't figure out what they do so they just ignore them and haven't bothered asking. Whatever update got rid of them the first time must have been reversed by a later update.

Hello @Gordon Collett,
Thank you for the additional info. I've escalated this to our development team for review, as this checkbox should not be showing.
Best,
Mark

I too see the check box on all Discussions, whether started by me or anyone else.

Ditto Gordon and dontiknowyou's responses. I've always ignored bookmarks, and never remarked on the checkbox before reading this thread, but poking around now that it has been pointed out, it's there everywhere.
