Problem connecting to parents and their family trees
Hi,
I am experiencing difficulties connecting myself to my parents' ID.
In the figure below, it shows a connection between my profile to my supposed parents IDs. However, when Family Search was updated, both my parents were assigned different IDs, i.e. their current IDs are no longer the IDs as shown below. When I tried to connect to their new IDs, Family Search would not allow me to do so.
Wondering if anyone may be experiencing a similar problem, and how you have resolved it? Cheers.
Regards,
Heisun

We would recommend you try as far as possible to enter date and place names for birth, Marriage and death, in the "Standard format". Please view this linked Help Article, which offers guidance for achieving this:
How do I enter dates and places into Family Tree?
We wish you success in building a well structured Family Tree in good acceptable format, which helps everyone.
Our good wishes.

Hi David, thanks for the reply. When you said to enter dates and details in the "standard format", do you mean to delete all of my existing family members from my existing tree? Then re-enter them all manually? I currently have several hundred names in my tree that my parents have done already. But since the last update to family search, somehow all their IDs are updated. I.e. the names IDs in my parents' trees and their associated ancestors are all different to the IDs appearing in my tree.
If yes to the question above, how do I remove my parents' old IDs from current tree? And how do I add their new IDs back into my tree? Thanks for your patience, I am new to all of this and am really keen to get this fixed so I can resume doing my family history work.

Hello,
I think you have misunderstood the mean of entering Place Names and Dates in Standard Format.
All the information you have entered does NOT have to be removed and re-entered.
All you have to do is make sure the place names and dates you enter are done so correctly, according to the instructions previously provided. I will send you a private message with some examples, to make clear what is needed.

@DavidBeck1, while properly standardizing one's entries is generally a Good Idea, for profiles that are marked as "Living", it makes no difference whatsoever in the grand scheme of things. It will particularly do absolutely nothing about the original poster's confusion about profiles for living people.

Hello @Hei Sun Ma
Further to what has been proffered, above, here is an explanation about ID numbers in Family Tree that might be useful:
- When you add a living person in your private spaces area, a unique ID is created. When another patron adds the same living person in his or her private spaces area, a different ID number is created.
- You cannot merge the records of a living person in your private spaces with the same living person in another patron's private spaces. You can merge records of a living person only if both records are in your private spaces.
Multiple users can enter a record for the same living person into their private space. Each record has a different ID number.
More information on how living persons are stored and accessed in Family Tree:
- FamilySearch restricts access to records of living people to protect their privacy. They are displayed in what it calls your "private space."
- Only you will be able to see the records of the living people you add, but keep in mind that the memories attached to them are potentially viewable by anyone, whether or not they are registered users.
- Living individuals cannot be searched by name in Family Tree.
- Living individuals can be searched by ID number, but only by those who created their record.
- Relationships between living people can be added by ID by those who created their record.
- A living individual has a different ID number for every person that adds his or her record to Family Tree. This allows work to be done on records while still maintaining privacy. These duplicate records can be merged once someone reports the individual as deceased and provides the appropriate documentation.
