Importing Ancestry tree to Familysearch ?
Hi,
Is it possible to export my tree from Ancestry.com and into Familysearch, that is with attachments, photos, Newspaper links etc ?
I have around 2000 people with photos and records attached to the Ancestry account.
Any hints or tips or links on how to guides etc would be greatly welcomed.
Kind Regards,
Rocco

To transfer information, create a GEDCOM file of the information you want on Ancestry.com, then upload that data to FamilySearch Family Tree.
If you click on the link above, it will explain how to create a gedcom and what to do with it. It is a lengthy detailed article.

Keep in mind that the Family Tree on FamilySearch is an open-edit communal tree. It is intended to eventually have one and only one profile for every person who ever lived. (A lofty and distant goal.) It is nothing at all like the individual trees found on Ancestry or MyHeritage, and importing data wholesale from those sites is not a good idea. This is especially the case when using the import process that the mod posted about: the mechanism is badly flawed, failing to detect clear duplicates, failing to give sufficient visibility into existing profiles for good decisions, and failing to prevent inadvertent overwriting of good data.
In my (strong) opinion, it is much better to stop the process after the upload. This places a static file in the Genealogies section of FamilySearch. Other users can search and look at those genealogy files, but no changes can be made to them, except that the original uploader (i.e., you) can delete an outdated file and/or upload a new one.
FamilySearch's Family Tree should be edited one profile at a time. It will be much faster in the long run than cleaning up after a GEDCOM import would be.

If you have a LDS ancestry.com account you can transfer information form an ancestor from Ancestry.com to FamilySearch. Data in your tree on Ancestry.com is not automatically transferred to Family Tree. You must do the transfer yourself.
This article introduces the information. You can learn more in the article Church of Jesus Christ-Ancestry® Membership on Ancestry.com.
Before you start
This feature is available only to Ancestry users who have the free Church of Jesus Christ-Ancestry membership.
Make sure the information in your Ancestry.com tree research is more accurate than what is in Family Tree. Check sources in both sites. Check reason statements in Family Tree.
Steps
- Sign in to Ancestry.com.
- Find the person in your tree on Ancestry.com:
- In the dark bar at the top, to the right of the Ancestry logo, click Trees.
- Click to select your tree.
- Find and click the name you want to transfer to FamilySearch Family Tree.
- Connect the person in your Ancestry.com tree to Family Tree:
- On the pop-up card, click Profile.
- To see options, in the upper right corner on the profile page, click the FamilySearch icon . This icon is not available for living people.
- If you are prompted to sign in, sign in with your Church account.
- If you see a possible match, click the circle next to the match, and compare the information in the boxes below the possible match. If the matches represent the same person, click Connect Person.
- If no matches appear or you do not see the correct match, click Add to FamilySearch.
- On the pop-up that appears, click Add to FamilySearch.
- Choose from the possible matches, and then click Connect Person.
- Transfer the information:
- On the person's details page in Ancestry, click the green icon again.
- Click Compare person on FamilySearch.
- Ancestry displays the person information from FamilySearch Family Tree on the left and the person information from Ancestry on the right.
- As you review the information, click boxes next to the information that exists in one account to transfer it to the other (for example, to transfer the birth date in FamilySearch Family Tree over to Ancestry if that information isn't listed in Ancestry.com).
- When you are finished comparing, click Save Changes.
- If you no longer want the name in your Ancestry.com tree connected to Family Tree, click the FamilySearch icon in the record of the person in your Ancstry.com tree, and select Disconnect Person from FamilySearch.
Your FamilySearch authorization has expired Error
When trying to compare Ancestry data with FamilySearch you could get the error: Your FamilySearch authorization has expired. Please sign in to renew it.
This error can appear if your Ancestry record is connected to a FamilySearch record that has been merged into another record. To resolve this error, go into Ancestry and disconnect the Ancestry record from the FamilySearch record, then reconnect them.

I'll start by looking into the GEDCOM option as I don't have an LDS Ancestry account.
Thank you all for the suggestions.

Interesting, thanks for the explanation. In that case I will need to think about what to do with the tree in Ancestry (countless hours spent building it up) and how make a start to add new profiles, match up with profiles that may already exist in FamilySearch. Going to need to make many cups of tea ☕️😀

FYI
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Further to what has already been proffered ...
FIRSTLY ...
In relation to the "Upload" of GEDCOM File into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' ...
As I always 'say', to User/Patrons, who mention the "Upload" of GEDCOM File into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' ...
------------------
You can; but ...
Please DO NOT Upload a GEDCOM File into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
Upload the GEDCOM Files in the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch', that is fine; but, please NOT into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
Some of the reasons that Users/Patrons (like myself) DO NOT want the ability to upload a GEDCOM File into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' are:
(1) It is most likely that individuals/persons in a GEDCOM File are ALREADY in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; and, most Users/Patrons DO NOT even take the time to look to see if any one in their GEDCOM File is already in "Family Tree", in some instances, negating the need to even upload the GEDCOM File.
(2) There has been (many) cases where Users/Patrons, using the "Compare" process (of the upload) have "Dismissed" a "Possible" Match with an individual/person already in "Family Tree"; so that, their "Record", from their GEDCOM File, is loaded into "Family Tree", regardless; just so that, their "Record" appears in "Family Tree" (and, in some instances, for Members of the Church, so they can do the "Temple" Work, despite the fact that the "Temple" Work is ALREADY done with the "Possible" Match with the individual/person already in "Family Tree").
(3) Even with the "Compare" process (of the upload), there has been (many) cases where Users/Patrons have uploaded THEIR version of an individual/person in their GEDCOM File, on top of (ie. Over) an individual/person ALREADY in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" that has been there for MANY years and is well documented and "Sources" - in many instances obliterating all of the documentation and "Sources".
(4) If an individual/person is ALREADY in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch", there is NO need to up uploaded one's version of an individual/person from one's own GEDCOM File - just take note of the the 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' (PID) of the individual/person that is ALREADY in "Family Tree"; and, one can go back later to ensure what information/detail is recorded and attached for that individual/person. Just DO NOT uploaded one's version of an individual/person in their GEDCOM File, on top of (ie. Over) an individual/person ALREADY in "Family Tree" - obliterating all of the documentation and "Sources" ALREADY in place/on record.
(5) The "Hours" (sometimes "Days"; or, even, "Weekes") of work, by other Users/Patrons, that can be needed to CORRECT the DAMAGE done by the upload of a GEDCOM File can be disheartening.
I am sorry ... 'off my soap box' ...
Enter (ie. 'Create') the individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' one at a time - on a one by one basis.
Many of the individuals/persons in a GEDCOM File, most probably, ALREADY exist in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
Only one or two generations of the "Living" individuals/persons; and, perhaps, maybe, only one or two generations of the "Deceased" individuals/persons, may be required to be entered/input into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch"; BEFORE, some of the "Deceased" individuals/persons, from one's Ancestral Lines, ALREADY existing in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', are discovered.
Use the "Find" facility/function/feature to Search "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', one may be surprised to find some (if not, many) of them already there.
Many well established and documented (eg. "Sourced") individuals/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' have been RUINED, by the upload, a GEDCOM File, into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
I hope this puts things into perspective.
------------------
SECONDLY ...
Furthermore ...
In relation to "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' in general ...
Here an old 'standby' of mine, that I have previously proffered on occasion ...
------------------
Most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic 'nature' and 'premise' of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', when they join in.
Please let me explain ...
We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).
We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like other 'On-Line' "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.
We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
And, most importantly ...
We DO NOT even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, Our OWN "Deceased" Ancestors/Family/Relatives in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
------------------
I know that this may not help; but, I hope this gives you another perspective ...

In Family Tree I have worked families of hundreds of persons that no one else had touched. If I had done the tree building elsewhere and imported a GEDCOM, it would have been an immaculate process. But most trees I've worked on have already been worked in part or whole by others, and in many cases the Family Tree was a mess: duplicates (in some cases more than 20 duplicates per person); conflations of multiple persons, couples, families into one; and so on. Uploading a GEDCOM on top of an existing mess makes an even bigger mess.
That's part of why I work here, up stream of other genealogy platforms. Extracting a GEDCOM from Family Tree to somewhere else is a relatively simple operation. It must be really easy to do, because hundreds, perhaps even thousands of extracts of my trees have been re-imported into the FamilySearch Genealogies collection. Curiously, I have seen not one of these imports get copied into Family Tree.

Hope the article suggested above fully answered your question.
This issue often generates questions, and these may have been answered previously. Just a tip to save you some time......before posting a question, it may be helpful to you to check if this topic has been addressed previously - You can add keywords (in this case 'Gedcom' or 'Transfer Information' ) to the search bar, and other similarly themed questions will appear and may provide you with a quicker answer.
Hope this helps.
