Replacing current family tree

Several years ago I opened a FamilySearch account and uploaded my tree. After that, I went to Ancestry and continued to build my tree. Two questions:

  1. When I update my family tree in Ancestry, does FamilySearch include those updates here? It doesn't seem likely or even possible, but what do I know.
  2. If not, how do I delete my current FamilySearch tree and replace it with my most updated tree from Ancestry?

Thanks in advance.

We understand that you are anticipating that Ancestry and FamilySearch Family Tree automatically update. Please go to Help (circle with ?) and enter keyword "Update Ancestry" and follow the instructions in

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-connect-a-name-on-my-tree-on-ancestry-com-to-a-person-in-family-tree

The short answer is No. Data in your tree on Ancestry.com is not automatically transferred to Family Tree. You must do the transfer yourself.

You may download from Ancestry a GEDCOM (see their help for instructions) and you may upload that to our Genealogies page and then compare that to Family Tree. This is done in a one at a time comparison do eliminate duplication in Family Tree which can be labor intensive to over come. Please go to help and enter keywords Upload GEDCOM and follow the instructions in

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-upload-my-gedcom-file

We hope that this answers your questions.

FamilySearch's Family Tree is an open-edit, communal "one world" tree. You do not have a "current FamilySearch tree" like you do on Ancestry. Instead, there are some profiles on the single FamilySearch tree that you identified however many years ago as being your family. Other users -- likely your cousins -- may have worked on those profiles since then, so they may no longer be exactly as you left them.
