Hello ElaineGoodner
Welcome to the FamilySearch community, and thank you for your question regarding a New York marriage for Edwin Williams Hammon and Alice Marion Bell.
1870 US Census has Alice Marion Bell in Pomfret, Chautauqua, New York, United States. But, the 1880 US Census has her in Otto, McKean, Pennsylvania.
It looks like Edwin Williams Hammon and Alice Marion Bell met and married in Pennsylvania. I would look in Pennsylvania for the marriage record.

Thank you for answering me so quickly.
1880 census has Edwin (Edward Hamand) as a boarder in Otto, PA. I have searched PA records too with no luck. Alice's sister, Clara, married in the same year to John Wick who was a boarder in the same house as Edwin. I can not find a record of their marriage either. The only other thing I know is they were Presbyterian and I have put out feelers in that direction.
Thanks again
