US—City and Business Directories, 1749–1990 [Part C] [M34C-P8Z]
I'm reviewing this particular batch and it is so riddled with incomprehensible and illogical errors that I'm beginning to wonder if it is deliberate. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason for these errors. Most of it isn't from not following the project instructions. There is evidence of that when it comes to the indexer assuming the spouse's surname is the same as the other spouse, but the other errors make no sense. For example, the given name is male, "David," and then the indexer puts something random like, "(widow) John," for the spouse's given name or another random male name. The indexer also does this with female names. The indexer also puts in random names for the spouse when there is no spouse indicated. I looked to see if any of the names before or after had a spouse with that name, but there are no listed spouses with similar names within the previous or post 10-15 given names. This has happened about 3 dozen times so far and I'm not even 1/3 of the way through the batch.
This has made reviewing this batch incredibly slow and tedious. Is there anything that can be done about this?

Yes, there is. If you want to help the Indexer to improve and/ or help FS get to the bottom of the problem, then you can Return the batch for Reindexing with Reasons. Even if you are willing to do the work of making all those corrections, it may be the better course, but it is your call.
To activate this “experimental” Labs option, select Help>Labs. You will see a description of this Reasons to Reindex Batch option, examples of using it, and can click to activate it. You then need to refresh your browser (curly arrow or F5) and return to your batch. Now if you click on Batch>Reindex Batch you will see the following form instead of the usual brief one. This will let you express your concerns about this batch, and allow FS to give the Indexer the necessary help or take appropriate other action. It includes some standard reasons plus a free-form “Other” option. Tip -sometimes it doesn't stay activated, and you may need to repeat the activation step.

You're welcome, Scott. Good luck.

Perhaps the indexer has Dementia, or another neurological condition.
