Removing a blank spouse record

Hello - one of my ancestors had 2 wives and several children to each. I have allocated the correct children to each wife but in doing so, a third spouse record (blank) has appeared. He definitely did not have a third wife! The record is blank and I have followed the advice given in the ? section but there does not appear to be any way of deleting. I would welcome advice on how to delete this blank entry please. Many thanks!

We looked at L2HR-G33 and under the third blank spouse you can click on the down arrow for the children. You will see all the children for James. Their ID numbers are the same as the ones above and since you have already assigned them to the correct mothers above ( Rachel and Isabella) you can remove the children from James and the blank spouse then that third grouping will go away. Please follow the help article attached above and that will give you the step by step process. As you do this you will be asked to provide a reason statement. I would indicate " associated with correct mother above"

We also noticed a research help for James showing he and Rachel living with their son Ralph in the England and Wales National Register, 1939 That is in the Research helps on the right side of James person page.

Here is an article how to attach research helps.

    Hopefully that will help you!

If you can give us the FamilySearch ID number of your ancestor with the 3 wives (but really there is only 2) we can look at that ID and be able to assist you.

Here is a link that may also assist you.

If there is child associated with the third blank spouse you will probably need to move that child to the correct wife and then remove that child from the blank spouse relationship. Then using the same process you can remove the blank spouse from that relationship. Thus you would end up with the one husband and his two wives and the respective children.

Go to the family that lists the father, no mother and then open the children. If you remove the children from this family unit, the extra marriage will disappear. Before doing so, make sure the children are listed in the correct family unit. The above article will give the needed instructions.

The record of the husband is L2HR-G33 and there are no children linked to the blank spouse record; all children are linked to the correct mother. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your reply. There are no children linked to the blank spouse record - the children have already been alllocated to the correct mother.

Another way of looking at this common situation is, the children have duplicate links to their father. Simply detach each child from their father-and-no-mother.
