Cyhthia, it seems that FamilySearch is limited by the image viewer regarding file formats.

    See this Article:

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/what-are-the-features-of-the-image-viewer-in-memories

    Does this answer your question?

    @Cynthia Huntsman Haller

    Cynthia

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

That is a very good question.

And, 'Diana', has already provided you with, a "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch', with regards the ONLY existing "File" Formats accepted in "Memories".

I must admit, I was curious as to format that you referenced.

    Wikipedia

    High Efficiency Image File Format

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Image_File_Format

    As an aside ...

As this is actually, the "Q and A" (ie. 'Question' & 'Answer') Section, where you submitted this post of yours ...

Can I humbly suggest that you REPOST (resubmit) this post of yours in the "Ideas" (ie. 'Feedback') Section, under the 'Topic' of "Memories (Photos and Stories)".

That "Ideas" (ie. 'Feedback') Section, is monitored by "Official 'FamilySearch' Representatives" from the Product Manager, to Programmers/Engineers. Please be aware that they DO NOT often respond; but, they will, at least, be aware, of the 'Feedback' that has been raised.

Here is the direct link to, that 'Topic' of "Memories (Photos and Stories)", in the "Ideas" (ie. 'Feedback') Section:

    "Ideas" Section

'Category' = "Memories (Photos and Stories)"

Home > Ideas > Memories (Photos And Stories)

    Memories (Photos and Stories)

    https://community.familysearch.org/en/categories/memories-photos-stories-ideas

    https://community.familysearch.org/en/categories/memories-photos-stories-ideas

    I hope this helps, somewhat.

    Brett

ps: You may get, very luck, and get a response, from one of the "Official 'FamilySearch' Representatives".

Thanks. I was trying to upload a photo to FS and it took me a while to figure out that the photo was in a different format. I recently updated my phone. It would seem user-friendly for FS to update to the newer formats. Thanks for explaining where to make a suggestion.

    Sr Hawks,

Thanks for your reply! Yes, your answer was correct about the formats currently accepted in FS. I will make a suggesstion to FS to update for newer formats as suggested by Brett.

    Thanks all.

    Cynthia

I am certain that 'FamilySearch' would like to enable more File Format,

    But ...

    That Said ...

I would suggest, that such is not; as, simple as most of us think.

More File Formats may certainly be added/included, it is really just a matter of 'Time'.

    As an aside ...

I found this Programme by accident, while searching for "HEIC Format for Photographs" ...

There is a FREE (non-commercial use) version ...

    Maybe worth a try ...

    Pixillion Image Converter Software

    https://www.nchsoftware.com/imageconverter/index.html

    https://www.nchsoftware.com/imageconverter/index.html

You may be able to "Convert" what you have to an acceptable File Format for "Memories".

    Just a thought.

Yes, I did find a converter program, and my grandmother's angel food cake recipe is in Memories. Thanks for all your suggestions.

    Cynthia

    Sorry, I forgot ...

    Just a 'Head-Up' ...

There is a problem/issue, at present, with NO ability, to raise a NEW "Idea", from the various 'Topics' ...

    [ It is a KNOWN problem/issue, that is being investigated ... ]

There are a number, of alternatives/'work arounds', to raising a NEW "Idea" in the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

At this present time, it appears that some of the the ways (of course, there may be others) to create and submit a "NEW Idea" are through the following:

    Options

    [ 1 ]

    1. A User/Patron (Participant) can go to their "My Discussions"
    2. https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussions/mine
    3. The "New Discussion" 'link'/'button', is located on the 'right-hand-side' of the page/screen.
    4. Select the "Triangle', on the 'right-hand-side' of that ("New Discussion").
    5. On the resulting "Drop Down" List, select "New Idea", at the 'Bottom' of the List.
    6. That will create, the template, for the submission, of a NEW "Idea".
    7. One MUST, select a particular 'Topic' (ie. "Category") in which to submit a post.
    8. The rest should be easy to follow/do (ie. Add a 'Title'; Add one's 'Idea'; Save)

    OR

    [ 2 ]

    1. Here is the DIRECT 'link'/URL, to allow you, to create a NEW "Idea", in the 'Topic' for "Memories"
    2. https://community.familysearch.org/en/post/idea/memories-photos-stories-ideas

    OR

    [ 3 ]

    1. Alternately, a somewhat more complex method:
    2. Go to, a particular 'Topic', under the "Ideas" (ie. 'Feedback') Section
    3. Select an "Idea" ALREADY submitted/posted, in that 'Topic'.
    4. In that "Idea", that has been selected, select that "New Idea" 'link'/'button', on the 'right-hand-side'.
    5. That will create, the template, for the submission, of a NEW "Idea", in that particular 'Topic'.

    I really hope this helps.

    Brett

ps: Again, sorry, for the belated advice, I almost forgot.

You are such a help! I just submitted a new question because I couldn't find the NEW IDEA button. Oh the joy.
