How to find parents to my great grandfather Michael James Barrett

For over 20 years I have tried to find parents for Michael James Barrett, b/Co Mayo, Ireland 1846? Married Mary Manley in Philadelphia, PA have many records but not connected to him. I am going to be 85 this week and would like to have this information. He died in Archbald Boro, Scranton, Lackawanna Co, PA in 1892 I believe.

There are many Michael Barrett's in that area. My great grandfather Michael had many children, One of whom was my grandfather William Barrett who m/Mellie Mae Pearce in PA. I have collected many items related to him? But its late at night now and I am getting too sleepy to search a file I have on him, its in my records on the Family Search. Appreciate any suggestions. Oh wild now I am confused looking back over my records this is some of what I have: Michael James Barrett my great grandfather b/7 Oct 1846 Bally Castle, Co Mayo, Ireland; d/4 May 1892 Archbald Boro, Lackawanna Co, PA. he m/Mary Manley on 27 June 1864 at St Anne's church in Richmond, Philadelphia, PA. Mary b/1848 d/1936) used to have a old photo of her but maybe have been thrown away when my children cleaned out my house?? Michael served in Navy Military 1864 aboard USS Sassacus & Princeton as a coal heaver. He d/of pneumonia 4 May 1892 in Archbald Boro, Lackawanna Co, PA where I was also born. I have copy of his wife's death certificate stating info on him also. He had bro Dr Patrick Barrett a year or so different then him and others siblings. Are you also a Barrett maybe we are related?? My birthday is tomorrow so this is exciting. But I see I did have a Patrick E. Barrett and Mary Anne Desmond (1824-1874) listed as possible parents??

I have an interest in Irish genealogy so I looked on Search Wiki

and found a few names that might be of interest on 'Ireland Church Records.'

The first site below is an Ancestry list of recorded names. At the top of the List is a Michael James Barrett born 1846 but he war born in Cork.

However the third entry is

Event Type: Baptism Birth Date:1846

Baptism Date:12 Oct 1846

Baptism Place: Mayo, Castlebar, Ireland

Diocese: Tuam,

Father: Martin Barrett

Mother: Mary Barrett

As you can see his father's name is Martin.

Of course this is no guarantee that this is the Michael Barrett you are looking for, but maybe it will point you in the direction you are looking for. There is another Michael Barrett with a father called Martin who was born in 1850.

Search Wiki is a good place to start as you can always ask the community for help.
