Should images such as this be indexed?

US, Missouri—County Marriages, 1806–1969 [Part L]

This image has a bride and groom and a marriage date as well as the book-page of the record. As a reviewer, I have found that some indexers say 'yes' and index the batch. Others say "no, no extractable data." My view is that since there is a date it should be indexed. It is like a register! It is NOT an index, without the date, that should not be indexed. Please clarify.

Thanks.

For this type of documents on this project of US, Missouri—County Marriages, 1806–1969 [Part L]

this question was reviewed and the instructions are changed. This is what we are asked to do with this batch.

" This batch should be indexed. It is not an index with just names and a page number. It also has the marriage date. The PI under What to Remember, bullet point 1, says that documents may include registers, with multiple marriages recorded on each page. That is what this batch includes."

    Please index this batch.

You are correct, Mary! These registers with the names of a bride and a groom and a date were always to have been indexed based on the Project Instructions. The instructions were not changed, but, they were misinterpreted so a lot of batches were incorrectly marked NED and will have to be sent back for reindexing.

There were two seemingly conflicting instructions. We sought clarification on which instruction applied to this batch and got it. We do our best to give prompt and correct answers. When there is further clarification given we notify the guest as soon as possible as happened in this case.

M9WB-HLX so I am reviewing one of these marriages, and the reference number is indexed as 3.....where did they get the 3, and what is the correct reference number we use, or do we blank it?

The 3 comes from the top right corner. Since it is the page number for the document they were indexing, and you are reviewing, it would be correct to index 3 as the reference number.

Field Help: Type the page number, record number, license number, or certificate number as it was written.

Thank you, but I have another question. Many of the indexers are using the reference number in the last column like on this batch: M9WB-HLX, but there is a small number in the upper left corner, so which is correct to use.

The field help instruction for Reference number indicates: Type the page number, record number, license number, or certificate number as it was written.

I have checked again your question and the image for M9WB-HLX , and yes, the number 3 at the right upper corner of the document should be the number to be indexed as the reference number as it explained the Field help.

Thank you for correcting these records !

We would usually never use the number in the last column for these images. That is the page number that the primary marriage license is located on. We use the page number of the image we are indexing, which is the small number in the upper left or right corner of these images. Perhaps someone should check with Indexing Ops about this, but, in the past, the page number for registers has been the page number of the register, not the page number for each individual record on the register.

FGGM, Thank you for confirming in your post above that we do index the page number of the entire register and not the individual page numbers from the last columns on the registers.
