Missing residence info in searching index for 1900 Utah census (and perhaps others)

In searching for people who lived in Utah in 1900, it is fatal to include as a condition that they in fact lived in Utah in 1900. For example, try searching for Emma Koyle born in Utah in 1879 with a mother named Rosetta (without insisting on any of these search terms exactly), and you'll find her at the top of a very long list of hits, with the following event data:

birth: October 1879 Utah

residence: 1900 Springville Precinct Springville city Ward 1-2, Utah, Utah, United States

However, if you go back and search again, but include a requirement of residence in Utah in 1900, she disappears from the list entirely. How can this be?
