Us Business directories Question

So recently I decided to do the US—City and Business Directories, 1749–1990 [Part C]. The problem I'm having is that I can't find the directory year or place on the paper. Meaning if the said person doesn't have a spouse I end up leaving 6/8 fields blank. So I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly. The other thing is, almost no one has spouses on there. I'm not sure if that's me putting it in wrong, or there just isn't a bunch of information on the image.

Thanks!

For the best advice, please share your batch information so that someone can look it. With your batch open go to Help>Share Batch.

However, it’s not uncommon for the Directory Place and Date to be missing. All you can do is type what you see. If also few or none have spouses, I guess it’s just an unusual batch. Share the batch info and you’ll get a more informed answer.

It's very common for the directories to not include spouses. Just mark it blank. And yes, Directory place and date are often missing. As said before, never assume.

It is not unusual at all for most of the indexing fields to be marked blank in this project. At times only the surname or given name field has any information to be indexed.

It is always best to post the Shared Batch code when you ask questions. That way we are better able to see what you are asking and we can also see the instructions to be better able to guide you to the correct answer.

    1. Just above the toolbar, click Help.
    2. On the drop-down menu, click Share Batch.
    3. The Share Batch window opens, giving you two options:
      • Copy the batch link, and paste it in an email to the helper or post it on the Share Batch, Etc. page on Facebook. The helper can click the link and go directly to the batch.
      • Share the batch code so the helper can enter it in the web indexing tool and open the batch.
    • A second way to find the batch code is by clicking Batch, then About Batch. The Batch ID is the same as the code.

The answers from inthegarden, rebeccaroselawyer1, and John Empoliti are all correct. Each shares an important thing about indexing Business Directories:

    1. Please share batch code. ie. [XXXX-XXX] found at the end of the title of your batch. This way others can see the image you are trying to index.
    2. Never assume anything from the given information - type what you see.
    3. It is not uncommon for the Directory Place, Date, and Spouse and Prefix to be missing.

Thank you for your service indexing. We are so grateful for this community of helpers that support each other. Best!
