You have listed my mother's name on my tree as Ruby Allene Baker.
She was raised by Lon Ryals as his child. He married my Mattie Raynor while she was pregnant with my mother.
She had always been known as Ruby Allene Ryals or Royals. Columbus Jackson Baker never married my grandmother, Mattie Raynor. My mother never knew who her birth father was. I would like her name listed as Ryals or Royals

Hello, As her son you are welcome to go in and edit the name on her detail page under vitals and correct it and then give a reason statement for the change. You may need to message others working on your family line so they understand her proper naming. Best wishes!

Hi Linda,
Thank you for the information. You may want to add your mother's relationship type to the two fathers, ie: biological, step, adopted, or foster. The article below may be helpful.
Also add her birth name in the Other Information section, as an Alturnate name, especially if the birth record mentions that name.
- Navigate to the Person page of the individual.
- Click the Details tab.
- Scroll to the Other Information section.
- Click Edit by the information you need to correct or delete, which may include common information such as:
- Alternate Name
- Residence
- Military Service
- Immigration
- Occupation
Wishing you success in getting your mother's information added.

The first response suggested you edit your Mother's information. Thought you might like the link to the directions. Also added is the link on how to send a message to another contributor. As suggested earlier, the person making the mistake needs to know that their information may not be correct. In addition, you might find additional information that you did not have. Please let us know if you still need assistance.

Hello Linda,
You will be able to correct this yourself.
Steps (Website)
- In Family Tree, display the person page of the individual whose information you want to correct.
- If you do not see Vitals near the top of the screen, click Details.
- For the information you need to correct, click Edit.
- Review the sources and reason statement. Continue only if your change makes the information more accurate.
- When editing a name, choose the appropriate language in the field above the name fields.
- Make your changes.
Now you need to show her in the correct family
- You can remove her from the wrong parents by clicking the pencil beside her name where she is listed to the incorrect parents.
- Now click add child in the family that she was born into and add her PID to add her to that family. Since she was born in that family, I would not specify that her father was a step-parent. In fact he may be her biological father.
Good luck with all your family history. We hope this has made it easy for you to make these corrections. If you need further help, do not hesitate to call our help number at 866 406-1830.
Best Wishes,
