My question concerns using the term Widow in the Prefix box. Is it appropriate to use Widow as a prefix? I have been using it but I find during the review process That very few people are using it. So yea or Nay.

Also is it appropriate to added the spouses surname based on the entrees surname?

attached for clarity are copies of pages from a batch. The first one I have corrected to add the widow and Surname and the second copy is without the changes.

which is correct.

Thank you

    Hi Eddie.

No, “wid Reuben” means “widow of Reuben.” It is not a prefix for Chloe. It is a descriptive term about Chloe. If there were a “Terms and Titles” Field (rare these days) it could go there. But in this project it is just an indicator that Reuben should be indexed in the “Spouse’s” Fields for Chloe’s Entry.

Also, we don’t assume Reuben’s Surname from Chloe’s. Note the following citation from the “Spouse’s Surname” Field Help (purple ? that appears when you click on a Field):

Do not assume a surname from the surnames of others mentioned in the document.

You're welcome, Eddie. It's tempting to use it as a prefix (e.g. "widow Jones" in the old westerns).

    John

Thank you for responding. I was unsure on that one and just wanted to Clarify it. That makes sense. It also makes it easier. Like I said I have run across some in Review that used widow and most

    Thanks again
