    Hi Dennis

My Role is a section for the Missionaries who work the Community. This is why it is blank when you click on it.

Thank your for contacting the Community.

so why is it even showing for non missionaries . . . ??

May I simply suggest to developers - that if the page is not designed for the use of the vast number of community users - that it be removed from display for those for which it doesn't apply . . . . whats the point of showing a blank screen - with no indication of what the purpose of the screen is.

exactly - and when I have one - I expect the screen to show it

but if a person does not have a role - why even show the blank screen in the first place? or show a blank screen - with no explanation of what the screen is and why its blank.

the menu should have a little tiny bit of intelligence to know when to display or not.

Im guessing that 99% of the millions of FS users - will NOT have a role. why design the display of the screen based on the < 1% who do and confuse the 99% who dont even know what the screen is for because its blank?

Everyone here has at least one role. But what to call it? Contributor?

we are talking about formal roles recognized by the community system systematically

and apparently most users dont have such formal role. - it appears mainly to be for support staff

we are not talking about some abstract concept in which we are all contributors or play other roles.

Correct. I am not talking about an abstract concept. In most communities where a structure of roles exists, everyone has a role. An entry level role has no special responsibilities but does have certain abilities. Here, the ability to edit.

, , , well dont hold your breath for them to create a role for everyone . ..

I'm just pointing out that sending the user to a blank screen - doesn't' make a lot of sense . . .

I agree that a link to a blank page is odd. And annoying.

If I could edit that page I might put in a paragraph about what I think my role is on FT and/or here on C.

right - but it is based on whatever the system is configured to handle . . .

and it seems like there may be no intent of configuring it beyond just misionaries.

It is very apparent to me that FamilySearch has adopted the Agile Manifesto or something like it. So I know any vision I or you, Dennis, or anyone else here expresses may be taken up.

Likes and Upvotes help great ideas rise to the top of the engineering to-do list.

    @Dennis J Yancey ( and @dontiknowyou )

    Dennis & dontiknowyou

    As an aside ...

As you may or may not be aware ...

If you, both, take a look, at your own individual "Profile", in the "Community.Familysearch" Forum, you will notice, that the FIRST (and, maybe, the ONLY) 'Role', that you have, is that of a "Member".

Such appears to be the case for ALL User/Patrons, who have "Registered" to be Participants in this Forum, no matter whether or not one has an "Administrative" Role in this Forum.

[ ie. We ALL, have the 'Role', of "Member", associated with our Profile ... ]

Unfortunately, in that "My Role" (Section), that actual 'Role', of "Member", DOES NOT appear.

    As such ...

    In passing ...

Perhaps, in that "My Role" (Section), rather than having a "Blank" page/screen, for the general populous, of 'lowly' Users/Patrons, who ARE Participants in this Forum; then, in the least, the 'Role' of "Member", could be displayed/recorded - certainly not much; but, hey, well, better than a "Blank" page/screen.

    Just a thought.

    its like steerIng a ship.

Or like towing a ship the old way, with all its boats in the water, sailors rowing furiously. But each boat tugs in a direction its pilot directs. That is exactly the point of the Agile Manifesto. Let them all row in a direction that seems right to them and wait for consensus to emerge. It is software design from the bottom up rather than top down.

This is how sailing ships used to reach beaches in the South Pacific. Sailors on the small boats could see coral reefs and the water depth that the ship could not see.

    Dennis

    FYI

This morning, I just noticed that, that "My Role" 'Tab', originally on the 'Perpendicular' Menu, on the 'left-hand-side' of the pages/screens, for the "Community.Famlysearch" Forum, has now GONE - not there any longer.

It possibly disappeared, yesterday, DURING; or, AFTER, the recent, "Weekly" Update/Release of Sunday Nigh/Monday Moring ( "Mountain" 'Time' ); being, the afternoon of Monday, 16 August 2021 at 16:00 Hours ( 4pm ), my Local time ( UTC +10 ).

    They are 'listening' ...
