I am indexing US—City and Business Directories, 1749–1990 [Part C] [M34C-G1K]
In this project, there are 10 columns with about 150 names in each column. When I reached 999 entries, the counter now reads entry 100 for the next name. I assume that since the counter only has 3 spaces, this is actually entry 1000. Am I to just continue indexing with the countern only showing 3 digits and assume that it is counting in the thousand numbers. I still have a little over 3 columns to index.

Yes just keep indexing regardless of what the counter field displays.

@John Empoliti The batch code is in the message header. I have overlooked the code several times in messages, it is easy to do.
I opened the batch and found that there is indeed only room for three digits in the record number field in Form Entry mode. Earlene had progressed to having 1200+ records extracted when I took a look at it. I tried Table Entry mode on it, that was a mistake, I kept getting unresponsive page messages from Chrome and finally just had to leave the page. But when I try to open it the tool still tries to go to Table Entry mode so I can no longer look at it.

Hi Jay. Thanks, I hadn't noticed that.
OK, I did it. Experiment complete. I got a few of those messages, clicked wait, and several seconds later was able to bring it up and scroll through it up and down quickly in Table Entry Mode. I guess 64 GB of RAM and a gaming computer (without the fancy graphics card) do the trick.
I have about 6 lines showing, and when I scroll it takes a second or so to populate the ones I can see. Oddly, it took about as much time to go back From Table Entry Mode to Form Entry Mode as it had taken to get to Table Entry Mode from Form Entry Mode. That says something about how they are managing the memory I suppose.
Also, you can enter a 4-digit value into the Entry "current" of 1292 box, hit Enter, and it will only show the first 3 digits but will take you to the proper Entry. Plus, if you put your cursor into that box and highlight the field left to right, it will reveal the whole 4-digit value, showing you the current Entry number.

I agree with Jay.
But please share the Batch info so that I can experience how that huge table treats my new computer. Click on the 3rd icon from the right to see how. Or just paste the URL of the open batch, or the Batch Code = the letters and numbers inside the square brackets at the end of the Batch name. Thanks much.

John, as you may recall I use Table Entry mode almost exclusively when working on the New York Land Grant projects and yes I have noticed that leaving table mode with a batch open takes about the same amount of time as entering it does. Nice to know that a pile of memory makes a difference in how fast Table Entry mode operates (and I suspect an SSD may also contribute to faster processing in that mode) .

HI Jay. Yes. I do remember that. And yes, I’m pretty sure that the SSD contributes too and in this case it’s a 7000 Megabytes/sec transfer rate SSD. And the PC has an exceptionally fast CPU, plus we have fast Internet and I’m plugged right into the router So it actually surprised me that it wasn’t almost instantaneous. But the other factor is the FS servers. They are not just servicing me, so I had to wait my turn. Anyway, I’ve been itching to try it, and I finally have.
