Are the names in parentheses at the end of the line children? Do I index them each separately with just the first names?

Ex: Stonebraker, Marcus (Emma)....(Vernon, Esther, Victor, Erma)

Thank you for your question, Dawnia. If you go to the Project Instructions, under What to Remember about This Project, the 9th bullet point down is the one you want to look at. It instructs us:

    • A spouse's name, if listed, may have been recorded in parentheses after the name of the principal individual.

On this directory, the first given name there is the Principal and the name in parenthesis is ths Spouse's Given Name. The Spouse's Surname will be marked Blank.

In this instance, you would include Township in the Directory Place.

The names in parenthesis at the end may be children, but as we do not know, we do not index them. Bullet point 2 tells us:

    • The completed index and links to digital images will be freely accessible online to the general public when the collection is published.

A researcher will see these names and know what to do with them.

Thank you for your willingness to index these amazing records.
