When doing a city directory and a spouse is listed, there is no surname. Do we leave it blank or put the surname of that person's spouse?

    Please share the Batch number.

Generally for this type of project, yes, you leave blank the surname field and write the given name in the field for a given name.

Follow the Field help for spouse Surname: Do not assume a surname from the surnames of others mentioned in the document.

If the surname was not recorded or was written as a variation of the word "unknown," press Ctrl+B to mark this field blank.

    Thank you for your question.

You leave the surname blank as shown in Example #2.
